Keep up to date with what’s going on in Flitton, Greenfield and Wardhedges Councillor/Co-opted members vacancies Ever thought of becoming a parish councillor or at least being co-opted onto one of the committees in which you may have an interest with a view to possibly standing next time there is an election in 2015? It is an ideal opportunity for you to make your voice heard as to how the village should be run. There should be 10 councillors but at present there are only 8 although they are supplemented by some co-opted members. There are only 6 full P.C. meetings each year which is not too onerous. If anybody is interested in an informal discussion prior to committing themselves please contact either Nick Thompson (Chair) on 01525 860421 or Debbie Lawson (Clerk) on 01525 860377. New cycle track Most of you will have seen and hopefully walked or cycled along the new track leading from the back of the Woodlands Estate to the top of the playing fields. It is intended shortly to fit 2 new bicycle racks in the top corner of the rec so that children from Woodlands can leave their bicycles safely without cycling on the rec which is of course strictly forbidden. It is hoped when funds allow to extend this cycle track to the top of Sand Road Flitton. Un- fortunately the track has already been abused with motorised vehicles being used for joy- riding. Please note that motorised vehicles of any kind are strictly forbidden on this track. Help needed tracing relations of deceased persons Following a recent safety inspection of grave headstones, the Cemetery Sub Committee is looking to locate any relatives of Horace Smith or George and Clara Sargeant who were buried in the 1970’s. From local knowledge it is thought that they moved from London and lived together in a bungalow which has since been demolished, near the Village Hall. If anyone knows how to contact their relatives please email the Clerk to the Parish Council on [email protected] or call Deborah Lawson on 01525 860377. New notice-board It is hoped that in the not too distant future a new notice-board will be erected in Green- field opposite Cornerways Garage and where it used to be situated. However the cost is exorbitant and the P.C. are wondering if anyone would be interested in utilising their wood- working skills and making one for the parish. Obviously the cost of all materials would be reimbursed. Anybody interested please contact Debbie Lawson (Clerk) Allotment vacancies There are vacant plots at both the allotments on Flitton Hill and at Joe’s Close Greenfield. Contact Gareth Ellis on 0780 9873124 or [email protected] (Flitton Hill) or Kathy Wright on 01525 714724 or [email protected] (Joes Close) Cows An incident occurred some weeks ago when two ladies were charged at by cows in the field at the back of Mill Lane. Although cows are normally extremely placid it appears that on this occasion this was far from the case. The Parish Council would therefore like to re- mind walkers about advice from the National Farmers Union and Ramblers Association when walking in a field of grazing livestock. Both editions will be longer than usual to give you more to read during the crisis. This first regular edition starts with memories of VE Day, the 75th anniversary of which was due to be celebrated on 8 May. I am among the dwindling band of people who can remember that event, so I am going to present some memories here which were collated from my school friends when we met up again after (yes, really) a gap of 60 years.

Page 1 of 11 FLITTON AND GREENFIELD PARISH COUNCIL Minutes of the Planning Sub Committee held at the Church Hall, Flitton on Wednesday 16th August 2017 Present: Cllrs N Arthur (Chairman), M Gates, N Thompson, T King, P Woodland, R Stokes, G Ellis and M Lowe CBC Cllr James Jamieson and D Lawson (Clerk) plus residents 1. APOLOGIES AND SPECIFIC DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST Cllr J Fisher sent apologies. Cllr P Woodland declared an interest in the any discussion on Flitton Hill. Cllr Arthur welcomed residents to the meeting and agreed to start with an open session to discuss the Local Plan Consultation. OPEN DISCUSSION There was a discussion about the village hierarchy and Cllr Jamieson confirmed that Flitton, Greenfield and Wardhedges has been re-designated as a small village and a case can still be made to separate the villages into three separate settlements. The Parish Council will pursue this to try and ‘future proof’ the Parish position and the CBC hierarchy matrix has been re-calculated to show the effect of separation. This would be in line with the way that other Parishes have been treated in the matrix. In separating the settlements this also emphasises the importance of keeping the open spaces and gaps to avoid any coalescence This means that the presumption in the next draft of the Local Plan will be that none of the settlements should have any large scale development and that 10 or less dwellings would be an appropriate size. In this case generally the Local Plan is not identifying sites in smaller villages; these are being left to make up any shortfall once the largest development areas have been designated.
