Please contact Central Beds School Transport for details. Students should be at the bus stop AT LEAST FIVE MINUTES BEFORE the time stated on this timetable. May we remind students that Central Beds and the bus company rules FORBID SMOKING on school transport. Our advice is always that parents (or students themselves) contact the school for advice if ever a bus is late. It is extremely rare that a bus does not turn up and we are always notified by the transport department in these circumstances. Central Beds School Transport is responsible for school transport and can be contacted on 0300 300 8339 If your son/daughter is joining Harlington Upper School and is entitled to travel on school transport then you should contact Central Beds School Transport team as soon as possible. Your child should then be issued with a bus pass by Central Beds School Transport during the summer holidays prior to beginning school. This will show the route number of the bus on which they should travel to and from school. The Bus Pass MUST BE CARRIED AT ALL TIMES AND IS SUBJECT TO INSPECTION BY THE DRIVER OF THE BUS. Students must NOT change buses. Please note that if a student does not have a bus pass then parents/carers are responsible for their transport to and from school. If a student loses their bus pass, or if it is damaged or defaced: • The student will need to obtain a temporary bus pass from the Student Support Office. • An online application and payment must be made to Central Beds School Transport immediately for a replacement pass - http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/school/transport/lost.aspx • Central Beds Transport will then issue a replacement pass. • The temporary bus pass is valid for ten days only, during which time the online application and payment must be made and received by Central Beds School Transport. We cannot issue another temporary bus pass if Central Beds School Transport have not received the online application and payment. .

  • Attendance Leave of Absence
Website: www.HAST-Education.co.uk September 2014 Dear Parents/Carers Attendance: Leave of Absence We are writing to outline the new guidance from Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC) regarding leave of absence for the purpose of family holidays during school term-time (August 2013) and the implementation of Fixed Penalty Notices (September 2014). Good attendance at school encourages good progress. Evidence shows that children with attendance below 90% made on average less than two-thirds of the annual progress made by pupils with attendance above 90%. Please be aware that there is no right or entitlement to term-time leave and any requests for such leave will not, as a rule, be granted. Any decision as to what constitutes ‘exceptional circumstances’ is at the discretion of the Headteacher. The following instances are offered as examples of what might reasonably be seen to constitute ‘exceptional circumstances’: A parent or other close relative of the child has a serious, life-threatening or terminal medical condition and it is believed that the holiday requested may be the last opportunity for the family to experience such an event; A parent is in the armed forces and is shortly due to be posted overseas to a known danger-spot, such as Afghanistan; The family is in an extreme state of crisis and it is considered that the holiday in question may help the family to avert or better deal with this crisis; Fixed Penalty Notices A Fixed Penalty Notice (£60 per parent/carer per child) may be issued when: A pupil is taken out of school during term-time for a holiday which has not been authorised by the school; A truancy patrol carried out by a School Attendance Officer has found a pupil absent from school and the absence has not been authorised by the school; Working with Central Bedfordshire Council Registered Office: c/o Harlington Upper School, Goswell End Road, Harlington, Dunstable, Bedfordshire.

He was known throughout the village, to be seen in all areas that the Council is responsible for, and I believe that the Council and Village will seriously miss his knowledge and wit. Lyndon served as a Parish Councillor for over 20 years, and Chairman of the Parish Council for 12 of those years.

Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund Since the first cohort of students came through the doors of the National College of Agricultural Engineering at Silsoe (which in 1975 joined Cranfield University and was later enamedr Silsoe College in 1983), thousands of students from across the world have graduated with degrees related to agriculture and the environment, with many going on to make substantial contributions in their field. In 2009 the University moved activities from the Silsoe site to the main Cranfield campus, a move which allowed us to integrate our traditional Silsoe strengths with the science, engineering and management skills found on the Cranfield campus. To celebrate this we launched the Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund to support students in topics related to Land and Water Management. Celebrating our Silsoe heritage At Cranfield University we are keen to attract the best and brightest students. For many, financial support is crucial to allow them to participate in courses in topic areas for which we have an international reputation. One of these key areas is agricultural and rural development, built through more than 40 years of research and training at Silsoe. The Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund recognises outstanding potential among the postgraduate students deemed most likely to have a significant impact in their field. These scholarships, made possible by the financial support of alumni and friends closely associated with the University, will ensure that Silsoe’s history, heritage and contributions will continue to be recognised and celebrated in the future. As well as donations from alumni and friends, the scholarship has received important funding from the sale of a small collection of vintage machinery, to be preserved for the future by individual specialists.
