Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund Since the first cohort of students came through the doors of the National College of Agricultural Engineering at Silsoe (which in 1975 joined Cranfield University and was later enamedr Silsoe College in 1983), thousands of students from across the world have graduated with degrees related to agriculture and the environment, with many going on to make substantial contributions in their field. In 2009 the University moved activities from the Silsoe site to the main Cranfield campus, a move which allowed us to integrate our traditional Silsoe strengths with the science, engineering and management skills found on the Cranfield campus. To celebrate this we launched the Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund to support students in topics related to Land and Water Management. Celebrating our Silsoe heritage At Cranfield University we are keen to attract the best and brightest students. For many, financial support is crucial to allow them to participate in courses in topic areas for which we have an international reputation. One of these key areas is agricultural and rural development, built through more than 40 years of research and training at Silsoe. The Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund recognises outstanding potential among the postgraduate students deemed most likely to have a significant impact in their field. These scholarships, made possible by the financial support of alumni and friends closely associated with the University, will ensure that Silsoe’s history, heritage and contributions will continue to be recognised and celebrated in the future. As well as donations from alumni and friends, the scholarship has received important funding from the sale of a small collection of vintage machinery, to be preserved for the future by individual specialists. In December 2014 we also received a generous donation from the Silsoe Society. Formed in the late 1960s, the Silsoe Society acted as the alumni body for students who 2013 Beneficiaries In 2013, four students – Matt Upson (PhD), Christian Lujan Bellon (MSc Wastewater Engineering), Joshua Elugbadebo (MSc Community Water and Sanitation) and Dan Golea (MSc Water and Wastewater Engineering) – were the lucky beneficiaries of the Fund. studied at the National College of Agricultural Engineering, and then later at Cranfield University’s Silsoe Campus. Alumni activity relating to Silsoe has since been incorporated into the main University alumni body, and so the remaining assets of the Silsoe Society have been transferred to the Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund to help support future students. I hope that you will join me in giving your support.” Professor William Stephens University Secretary and Head of the Executive Office 2014 Beneficiaries One of the students benefitting from the Fund in 2014 was Amanda Beckles, studying Environmental Management for Business. Amanda accepted the offer at Cranfield University because of our reputation for excellence and personalised teaching methods: “I had been offered a place at another university but the award from Cranfield made doing a degree more affordable. Cranfield is a brilliant place to study. The Environmental Management for Business course is well-structured and the standards are high. I would recommend Cranfield to anybody who has an interest in this area.” Silsoe Heritage Scholarship Fund Gift Form 1 YOUR DETAILS Title First name Last name Address 3 GIFT AID Postcode Country Course Year In order for Cranfield to reclaim the tax you have paid on your Email donation(s) you must have paid Telephone an amount of UK Income Tax and/ or Capital Gains Tax for each tax 2A REGULAR GIFT (UK ONLY) year that is at least equal to the I would like to make a regular gift of: amount of tax that Cranfield will reclaim on your donation for that AMOUNT: FREQUENCY: tax year. £25 Monthly £50 Quarterly Please treat this gift of money and £100 Annually all future gifts that I make from the date of this declaration as Gift Aid D D M M Y Y Y Y Other £ ________________ Starting on: donations.
