DFG Leibniz Lecture “Tectonics and Climate of the Southern Central Andes” Manfred Strecker, Thu, Dec. 17, 7:00 pm Goethe-Institut San Francisco, 530 Bush Street

Manfred Strecker, University of Potsdam, awardee of the prestigious German Leibniz Prize, will review the geological and environmental of the southern central Andes of NW Argentina. His lecture titled “Tectonics and Climate of the Southern Central Andes” will address the fundamental impact of active tectonic processes on precipitation and erosion in this non-collisional mountain belt.

Presentation of the German Bid for the 37th IGC Tue, Dec. 15, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Moscone Center, Exhibit Hall, North Hall, Hall D; Booth #125

After consulting the main German geoscientific stakeholders, the German National Committee for the IUGS decided to submit a bid to host the 37th IGC in 2024 in the city of Berlin. Learn more about the German bid and its concept at the “Research in Germany” booth.

Attendance is open to all interested and registered visitors and participants of the AGU Fall Meeting 2015.

The initiative “Research in Germany – Land of Ideas” is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Its main objective is to present Germany’s research achievements and opportunities to the international research community and key international markets. Within the initiative the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (AvH), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Fraunhofer Society (Fraunhofer) jointly promote Germany as a research location together with scientists from German research institutions.
