Dain Dance Academy Competitive Team Audition 2020/2021 Competitive Dance Team Program

Below is the Competitive Dance Team Information. Please email the studio with any questions you may have. The number of teams/levels will be determined by the talent that auditions at the first audition. We MAY hold a 2nd audition to accommodate transfer students or for those that cannot make the first audition. However, Teams will be determined/formed from the first audition in July. Those dancers who audition at a later date will only be placed on a team if they fit with an existing team. NO DANCER WILL BE PLACED ON A TEAM IF THEY DO NOT AUDITION. (Either privately or in-class audition)

Scheduling: Days/times of classes for the 2020/2021 teams will be determined after the audition when we know how many teams we need to accommodate into the schedule. Most teams will need a minimum of 10 dancers. Some teams may be smaller, some may be larger.

General Information and Details:

*The competitive classes/teams will have their own set of classes and get the opportunity to perform and compete on a regional level (mandatory) as well as attend a national level convention and/or competition.

As this past season was a bust due to Covid-19, we will discuss the potential of attending a National Convention in 2021 at our first parent meeting. Before making any decisions, we will review the latest information (in Sept) and evaluate he climate of all going on with our parents.

***If you are thinking about auditioning for the 2020-2021 DDA Competitive Team, Please know that we only travel for Nationals every 3-4 years. Typically, the National Competitions that we attend take place within a reasonable driving distance

*There will be 2 (possibly 3) Team meetings throughout the season that you (dancer and parent) are required to attend (or have someone represent you). These meetings will occur in early Sept. Jan. & March. These meetings outline everything you need to know to stay in the loop. All details for the year are discussed at these meetings. Poor attendance at these 3 meetings, and/or lack of knowledge of where to be and when, may result in your dancer(s) dismissal from the team.

Cost: (Summer Program Tuition June-July) Regular Season Tuition: Sept-June, ) **Audition fee: $5 (to cover the cost of paying teachers to conduct the audition) NO FEE THIS SEASON!!!! *The price for team classes does not differ from regular classes. Team members will be charged according to the tuition chart. Team members DO need to pay competition fees (on-time, by the given deadline) in addition to tuition. Failure to do so, will result in dismissal from the team.

*There will be a Team Open Rehearsal time allotted on the schedule throughout the year. There is no charge for this class, however, all team members must be able to attend that class. That time is designated to learn/ rehearse production numbers, as well as extra rehearsal time for competition. (Tentative: Saturdays. 12-4PM). ***This is typically only needed for extra rehearsals/costume fitting as we approach the competitive season in Jan, Feb & March

* There will be a uniform fee. (Due during 1st Spirit Wear Order (Nov)) For all teams the cost will be: Grey/White Warm-Up Jacket w/ Team Dance Pants = $ 130 Jacket Only = $75 Pants Only = $55

*Activity Fees Requirements: The teams will have a set of Activities/Conventions/Performances they will attend during the season. (Typically weekends) The activity fee for each team will include all regional competition (team) fees, 2 smaller (DMA) workshops, 1-2 larger convention/workshop, performance (s) and possibly a fun team event (like a show or group team building activity). At the first Team meeting, the cost per team and the activities it includes will be detailed.

Activity Fees Example: (fess based on prices from ‘19-‘20 season, prices will be updated as released) 2 DMA conventions 2 x $50 = $100 1-2 Larger workshop/convention (NUVO or JUMP: $175 – $300 (dependent upon level - for a 2 day workshop) Competition fees: Regional Competition fees approx. $45 per routine at each event (19’-20’ season prices) National fees: approx. $55 per routine at each event ***Solo/Duo/Trio fees are extra***

DDA TEAM RULES 2020/2021

* To be considered for the DDA Competitive Team, all dancers must submit their audition requirements by the designated deadline of July 10th (or make arrangements for a private audition) and get all required paperwork in by the posted deadline (listed in this information sheet).

*All dancers accepted onto a Dance Team, must participate in the DDA Summer Dance Program (to keep in shape over the summer and start the year as productively as possible. Regular weekly classes will be held for 6 weeks. While we do take into consideration that dancers may have vacations planned with their families, all DDA team members must be registered for the 6 week session. Dancers are welcome to participate remotely or double up on classes other weeks if they are away at any time during the DDA Summer Session.

*ATTENDANCE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT IN ALL CLASSES! YOU MUST ATTEND THE CLASS PRIOR TO EACH COMPETITION. Attendance will be taken at each class throughout the year. If attendance is poor and you are not in attendance during the class(s) leading up to a performance or competition, the formations may be reworked and you may not be eligible to participate in the routine. If this happens more than once, you may be removed from the team from that point on. ***No refunds for costume, tuition, competition fees, etc. There will be a $75 fee assessed for the choreographers time in having to re-block a routine

*Any Team member who misses two (2) of the SAME Team class in any month (4 week period) without a doctor’s note or excused absence may be dismissed from that Team with no refunds for tuition, uniform, costume, etc. You can not miss more than 1 (use it wisely, when needed) Attendance from this past season will be a factor as to whether you are considered for a team this upcoming season.

*Every Team member is expected to abide by the dress and hair codes for every class, convention, and competition. DDA Dress code is stated in the DDA Handbook. Dress codes will be reviewed, as rules set forth by the convention differ from event to event.

*Every Team member is expected to and may be required to participate in fundraising: Some fundraisers will be individual fundraisers and therefore will be optional as to whether you participate. Other TEAM fundraisers will be discussed at meetings and therefore the team as a whole will be required to participate to make the fundraiser work to the benefit of all. The intention is that the $ from team fundraisers will help cover any incidental costs the team may incur & help defray and/or cover the cost of all regional/national competitions.

*Team parents must commit to positively supporting their dancer through positive feedback and encouragement!

*Team parents must also commit to helping out during the annual DDA recital by ushering, taking tickets, selling t- shirts, distributing yearbooks, monitoring dressing rooms etc.

*Community events: We are looking for our teams to become more involved in and around the community in the way of community service. Dancers will be required to participate in one community service event during the dance season.

*Every TEAM member is required to attend extra rehearsals throughout the year as needed. (This will help with time needed here and there for costume fittings, working with props, snow make ups, etc.)

* Members must participate in their designated team activities for the year, ie: conventions, performance, etc.

*All dancers must wear their uniform/warm-up to Team events, including conventions, performances, etc.

*Members of a TEAM are just that…a TEAM! Teams should/will operate as one unit. Teachers and choreographers create routines for/with the number of dancers that make up that team. If even 1 dancer on a Dance Team cannot make a competition, it effects the formations, the placement of dancers in , the overall look of the routine, and most importantly team morale and the dancers’ ability to be able to trust and count on each other, etc. If a dancer cannot make a performance/competition, that team may not be permitted to participate in the event. If this occurs after the routine has been registered, there is no refund for any of the team members.

*In the event of illness or injury, dancers are expected to attend classes, rehearsals, workshops, etc. to hear and visually learn the material being presented, unless physically unable to do so (a doctor’s note is required).

*All dancers must have a complete “performance kit” with them at all performances/conventions. (This will be discussed at the first meeting, but includes things like: hair pins, eyelashes, glue, designated make-up, etc.) (Things you all carry with you to recital etc. already) *All dancers & parents understand that being on this Team is a commitment and a privilege and therefore agrees to participate in the program(s) as detailed.

 All dancers must abide by the Rules and Regulations set forth by Dain Dance Academy, the director, its staff and teachers as well as those set forth in the DDA Handbook.  All dancers must adhere to the regulations set forth by DDA (in the DDA Handbook) with regard to posting on Social Media. Rehearsal/Class/Choreography of any kind may not be posted on to social media without the approval of the teacher/choreographer of said class and/or the Director of DDA.  Exceptional TEAM behavior is expected at all times for the betterment of everyone’s learning. Dancers who are disruptive to a positive learning environment due to poor attitude, excessive talking, poor work ethic and the like will be removed from class/team.

Any DDA Competitive Team member not abiding by the above rules will be dismissed from the Competitive Team without refund. ______
