Gone Dancing Competition Team Rules and Guidelines 2018-19 Season -Preparing a team for competition requires a commitment to extra classes and Rehearsal time. It is important that each dancer be 100% dedicated and work to the best of their ability. - The purpose of the rules and guidelines is to develop a professional environment for the progression and development of each dancer. The actions of each dancer affect the team as a whole so it is important for each dancer to be fully committed and understand what is expected of them. -The Holiday Performance and Competition Schedule will be announced in July. PLEASE BLOCK OFF THE ENTIRE WEEKEND FOR COMPETITIONS. We do not receive our routines schedule until 1 week prior to the competition dates. Weekly Requirements- Part Time Team- These teams are designed for dancers ages 5 and up who want to be part of the competition experience but cannot commit to All of the requirements of the full time team or are not technically ready for intermediate choreography. (Just because you may not be technically ready this year does not mean that after another year of working hard in all of your classes that you will not be ready the following year!) Must commit to 3 Regional Competitions. Conventions and Nationals are encouraged but not required. **Any dancer interested in becoming a part of our competition team must spend a year in a non-competition class before being considered for a team. ** Weekly class requirements: Ages 5 and up Must dance a minimum of 3 hours per week. -

Competitive Dance Program Information Packet Mission Statement Our goals are set high and achieved through the art of dance. The dance experience promotes dedication, achievement, and the development of self-esteem, grace, poise and lasting friendships. We uphold the vision of producing performers and educators. Competitive dancers & Apprentice dancers are known as and compete as “Water Street Dance Co. We have gained recognition at many competitions the past several years, therefore we continue to use the name. However, the local Washington studio is “Just Dance.” Categories Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Contemporary, Musical Theater and Open. Small Groups (4-9 dancers), Large Groups (10 or more). Depending on how many dancers in a group, they can also be considered Lines or Productions. Duets and Trios are also available for the more advanced/experienced dancers and must be arranged between the dancers and the teachers/choreographers. Solos are for dancers on Senior Competitive only! We do not allow student choreography (other than seniors in High School) nor dancers not willing to rehearse. Placement Dancers will be placed in only the routines and age groups that are best suitable for that individual. Not everyone is in every dance you may only end up in one or two dances. If you have been placed in too many dances, please let Gina know and she will tell you what numbers can be eliminated. This must be done as soon as you receive your placements. No later, as you are taking a spot someone else could have taken. Keep in mind if a routine is designed to be a large group, you would have to give up a small group first. -

Also, the article tries to throw a little more light on this notion, through a multidisciplinary view on the part of the population that has been named Vlachs in the past or present. The goal is to create an image of what they really are, and what they have never been, through a specific chronological historical overview of data related to the Vlachs. Thus, it allows the reader to understand, through the facts presented here, the misconceptions that are related to this term in the historiographic literature. Yannis Ritsos and Czechoslovakia: Anthology of Czech and Slovak Poets
GRAECO-LATINA BRUNENSIA 18, 2013, 1 TEREZA KESLOVÁ (MASARYK UNIVERSITY, BRNO) YANNIS RITSOS AND CZECHOSLOVAKIA: ANTHOLOGY OF CZECH AND SLOVAK POETS The aim of my contribution is to introduce the work of a Greek leftist poet Yannis Ritsos Anthology of Czech and Slovak Poets (Ανθολογία Τσέχων και Σλοβάκων Ποιητών). The impulse and inspiration for his work were his two visits to Czechoslovakia in the 1960’s. The book was published in 1966 in Greece, but almost all copies were destroyed at the behest of the contemporary ruling military junta. The anthology is unique not just in its creation, in which even Czechoslovak Writer’s Union took part, but more importantly it is unique for its content, because it introduces a wide, well-researched overview of Czech and Slovak poetry of the first half of the 20th century. Key words: modern greek literature, czech literature, slovak literature, translation, Ritsos, Anthology of Czech and Slovak Poets, Cold War cultural politics, Czechoslovak Writers’ Union Yannis Ritsos, a Greek leftist poet, worked on the Anthology of Czech and Slovak Poets1 during his two stays in Czechoslovakia in the 1960s. This monumental piece of work fell victim to the right-wing dictatorship in Greece and only a few copies survived. My modest goal is to introduce this unknown work of Ritsos. An in-depth analysis will be a part of my dis- sertation on Yannis Ritsos and his relationship to Czechoslovakia. Firstly, I will briefly mention Ritsos’ foray into translation, then I will move on to the main topic – the circumstances of creating this work, the content of the work, its contribution, and I will finish my lecture by outlining the basic incongruities and questions that arise when this work is studied closely. -

Raleigh © 2019 Mira Markham ALL RIGHTS RESERVED ii ABSTRACT Mira Markham: Světlana: Rural Political Culture and Resistance in Postwar Czechoslovakia (under the direction of Chad Bryant) This thesis examines the role of the wartime partisan movement in shaping anti- Communist resistance in Moravian Wallachia, a rural region in the easternmost corner of the Bohemian lands. The experience of partisan war in this region, as well as the prominence of former partisans in postwar public life, led to the development of a distinctive local political culture opposed to the bureaucratic power of the central state. Local grievances drove former partisans in Moravian Wallachia to mobilize networks and practices of resistance developed during wartime to challenge the consolidating Communist regime. Police agents also drew on partisan practices to reconstitute local opposition and resistance into a prosecutable conspiratorial network that could be understood within the framework of official ideology. Through the case of Světlana, a resistance network that emerged among former partisans in 1948, this paper situates both opposition and repression within a specific local context, demonstrating the complex interactions between state and society in the Czechoslovak countryside and providing a new perspective on the issue of anti-Communist resistance in Czechoslovakia during the Stalinist era. -

The spatial distribution of gambling and its economic benefits to municipalities in the Czech Republic David FIEDOR a *, Zdeněk SZCZYRBA b, Miloslav ŠERÝ b, Irena SMOLOVÁ b, Václav TOUŠEK b Abstract Gambling is a specific type of economic activity that significantly affects many aspects of society. It is associated mainly with negative impacts on the lives of individuals and their families, but it also has a positive economic impact on the public budgets of states, regions and municipalities. In this article, we focus on a geographic assessment of the development of gambling in the Czech Republic, which is based on a spatial analysis of data on licensed games and data on the revenues of municipalities arising from gambling. It turns out that the occurrence of gambling is strongly influenced by binary centre/periphery dichotomy, with the exception of the Czech-Austrian and Czech-German border areas which are characterised by a high concentration of casinos resulting from more rigid regulation of gambling on the other side of the border. In this research, the authors develop an innovative scientific discipline within Czech human geography: The geography of gambling. Ján Lajčiak: Slovakia and Culture Bratislava 2007, Vydavateľstvo Q 111, 173 pp. This re-edition of Slovakia and Culture by Ján Lajčiak was necessary. There continues to be a lot of interest in the book and the first edition has completely sold out. Why is it still so attractive? I think that the way Lajčiak writes about the bitter miseries and harsh drudgery of human life is what makes the book so fascinating. Lajčiak’s writing style is free from the ballast that typically encumbers other texts dealing with the same topic. When describing laziness and passivity, he touches on ethical issues and provides a catharsis. The text has many layers and inspiring insights. * * * About 100 years ago, after returning to what is nowadays known as Slovakia from his stay in Budapest and his studies in Erlangen, Leipzig and Paris in 1905, Ján Lajčiak started to make notes and outline his reflections and critiques on the situation of life at home. However, it was only after his death (exactly on the day of the declaration of Czechoslovak Republic in October 1918) that S. Š. Osuský began to sort the notes and whole chapters into a unique book about Slovakia. What makes Lajčiak’s book Slovakia and Culture so special that even today a whole edition is sold out? What makes it so charming – even 100 years after it was written? The magic of his book is in the ethos, in the ethical attitude expressed in his writing. Lajčiak doesn‘t avoid talking about people’s weaknesses and shortcomings which are as obvious as their consequences.
