Currently undergoing preparation by the new owners, Knocknon cottage is situated in the small scenic village of Balmaclellan, about 1½ miles from New Galloway, very near to the village shop and opposite the church. Convenient parking available. It sleeps 4/5 - with one double and one twin or double room upstairs and if required 1 or 2 in a room downstairs. Downstairs bathroom. Small outside patio with shed for secure bike storage. The cottage enjoys beautiful views from upstairs bedrooms and patio. There are many places to visit nearby, e.g. the Galloway forest park designated as the UK's first dark sky area, with three hundred square miles of outdoor pursuits – walking, fishing, the 7Stanes mountain bike tracks, three visitor centres. There are various golf courses and historic sites within easy reach and beaches as near as forty minutes drive away. The Scottish Dark Sky Observatory is nearby as is the beautiful Loch Ken for many water sports. New Galloway offers pubs, cafés and a newly opened arts centre. The market town of Castle Douglas is about 20 minutes by car offering the usual facilities – supermarket, petrol station etc. as well as an array of interesting independent small shops and cafés. On the outskirts of Castle Douglas you will find the Scottish National Trust's Threave estate. The whole area is fantastic for wildlife – there are red deer observation and (hand!) feeding sites ,red squirrels, a huge success story with red kites which can be seen being fed on a daily basis, a truly amazing sight. The pretty towns of Kirkcudbright, Gatehouse of Fleet and Newton Stewart with a lovely little independent cinema are all within easy reach.
