Christ the Lord: the Road to Cana Free
FREE CHRIST THE LORD: THE ROAD TO CANA PDF Anne Rice | 352 pages | 05 Feb 2009 | Cornerstone | 9780099484189 | English | London, United Kingdom Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana - By Br. Benet S. Exton It was a genuinely stirring display of piety, rich with the fruits of Ms. Emboldened by the success of this literary shape-shifting, the formerly raunchy Ms. And as it jumps forward toward the adulthood of its narrator, the new Ms. Rice steers the story toward passions that the old Ms. Rice understood. Rice describes this stage of his life with awe and respect. And she gives him a crush on one of his relatives, a year-old girl. Does he care about nothing but carpentry? Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana he devoid of interest in women? So the cattier residents of Nazareth seem to think. But Ms. Some of this historical detail calls for awkward mouthfuls of exposition. But the book is clear in purpose and bound for glory from this point on. And Ms. Here is when Yeshua transforms water into wine. Rice presents this miracle as she has the other biblical events on which her fiction is based: she decoratively embroiders the Gospels while fully respecting their message. In her version, the wedding becomes that of Avigail, who is an entirely fictitious character. The absence of wine at the wedding becomes calamitous, though the Bible describes it without alarm. Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana maintains. The book ends on a note of best-sellerly promise, mindful of how much more is yet to come. -

For Matthew, Jesus is the great teacher (Matt. 23:8). But teacher and teachings are inextricable bound together, Matthew tells us. With God and Father Ciszek in Rome
Read newsletter online [email protected] 2014 Issue I www.ciszek.org With God and Father Ciszek in Rome On June 10, 2013, after a hiatus of nearly fifteen years and nearly · twenty years to the day that I first visited, I returned to Rome. International travel is always interesting and this trip was no different. I shared a shuttle from the airport to the center of the City of Rome with an Iranian doctor. He spoke English and it had been his first trip to Rome. He must have sensed that I knew where I was going (not sure I had that sense!) so we began a conversation after disembarking our aircraft and making our way through customs and, after he bought me a cappuccino, we shared the cost of the taxi into the center of town. I'm sure the State Department of the United States and the Foreign Ministry of Iran would not have approved of our conversation. It ranged from politics, the relations between our respective countries, religion, and the ancient cultures from which we both sprang- Rome and Persia. As we were entering the walls of the ancient city, my interlocutor was taking pains to tell me how much more glorious the ancient Persian monuments in Tehran were compared Rev. Walter]. Ciszek, S.]. ~~--':---·- to Rome. Of course I disagreed, and perhaps risking an international PRAvi:iF<>RA--FA.YoR incident, proclaimed the glory of the Eternal City. It was all very polite, THROUGH THE but we were hardened in our positions. As we left each other, we wished INTERCESSION OF each other well and made our way to our respective destinations. -

349 Walter Ciszek, S.J. Following Twenty-Four Years in the Soviet
Book Reviews 349 Walter Ciszek, S.J. With God in America: The Spiritual Legacy of an Unlikely Jesuit. John DeJak and Marc Lindeijer, S.J., eds. Chicago,: Loyola Press, 2016. Pp. 264. Pb, $19.95. Following twenty-four years in the Soviet Union, most of it spent in the prisons of Moscow and labor camps of Siberia administered by the Soviet secret police in its various manifestations, from nkvd (People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs, Stalin’s secret police) to kgb (Committee for State Security, the secret police’s name from 1954 onwards), Father Walter Ciszek, a Polish-American Je- suit priest, returned to the United States of America on October 2, 1963. For much of his time in the ussr, his order and his family and friends assumed he, like so many others swept up by Stalin’s henchmen, had died during his captivity. Ciszek was not able contact them until 1955, two years after the So- viet dictator’s death, and would not obtain his release for another eight more years, as the Kennedy administration arranged the transfer of both Ciszek and the American graduate student Marvin Makinen for two Soviet agents, United Nations functionary Ivan Egorov and his wife Alexandra, who has been arrest- ed by the fbi in 1961 for espionage. Upon his return Ciszek would take up a position at the John xxiii Center at Fordham University, his home for much of the rest of his life. Almost immediately upon his arrival Ciszek became an American celebrity. During the height of the Cold War he was a rare person who had first-hand knowledge not only of daily life in the ussr, but one of its most closely guarded secrets, the vast network of labor camps known as the Gulag. -

1 Thursday of the 7th Week of Easter 500th Anniversary of the Conversion of St. Ignatius of Loyola at the Battle of Pamplona and the Beginning of the Ignatian Year Homily of Bishop John Barres St. Agnes Cathedral May 20, 2021 The 17th Chapter of the Gospel of John focuses on the Glory of God. Jesus prays to his Heavenly Father: “I wish that where I am they also may be with me, that they may see my glory that you gave me, because you loved me before the foundation of the world.” The great saints of the Catholic Church dedicated their lives completely to the Glory of God and their lives are powerful commentaries on John 17. One such saint is the Founder of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits. His name is St. Ignatius of Loyola and he lived from 1491-1556.1 His life and Jesuit charism are summarized in the phrase Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam – For the Greater Glory of God. This simple phrase has focused, grounded and motivated the mission of holy Jesuits and Jesuit universities, institutions and apostolates for centuries. Today – May 20th, 2021 – we celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Conversion of St. Ignatius of Loyola and we also begin an Ignatian Year as we simultaneously celebrate the Year of St. Joseph. The Ignatian Year starts today May 20th , 2021 and lasts till the Memorial of St. Ignatius on July 31st, 2022. An ambitious Spanish soldier, Ignatius was wounded by a cannon ball at the Battle of Pamplona on May 20th , 1521. 1 See Bishop Barres’ Pastoral Letter introducing the Ignatian Year ‘Ad Maiorem Dei Gloriam – For the Greater Glory of God’. -
