This is done by analysing four different series from 2010s, in which incest is a major theme. The analysis is done using visual analysis. The study concludes that although the series can show sexualization of drawn underage girls, reading the works as if they would posit either real or fictional little sisters as sexual targets. Instead, the analysis suggests that following the narrative, the works should be read as fictional underage girls expressing a pure feelings and sexuality, unspoiled by adult corruption. To understand moe, it is necessary to understand the history of Japanese animation. Much of the genres, themes and styles in manga and anime are due to Tezuka Osamu, the “god of manga” and “god of animation”. From the 1950s, Tezuka was influenced by Disney and other western animators at the time.

  • Ruth: Resident Alien with a Face
Ruth: Resident Alien with a Face The biblical book of Ruth challenges our easy assumptions and stereotypes about immigrants today, especially when we put to it two simple questions: “What challenges does Ruth face as she accompanies her mother-in-law Naomi to Judah?” and “How does God help her meet these challenges?” Christian Reflection A Series in Faith and Ethics Prayer O God of creation, your redeeming work in this world is not dictated by borders, by lines on a map. We praise you for the unreserved nature of your mercy and the expansive reach of your love. You have created all the people of the earth in your image and care for each one. Focus Article: Remind us this day of your call for us to be a blessing to all Ruth: Resident Alien families of the earth, and illuminate the fears that make us with a Face unwilling to be the vessels of your blessing to those who live (Immigration, pp. 20-25) as strangers among us. Amen. Suggested Article: Scripture Reading: Ruth 1:22-2:23 Beyond Risk and Reflection Uncertainty The people of Israel carefully distinguished among the other persons (Immigration, pp. 68-71) who lived among them. They used zar and nokri (“foreigner”) to describe those like the Canaanites, Ammonites, and Moabites who had no part in Israel, but used ger (“alien” or “sojourner”) for one “who comes from outside the community but who settles within the community,” Dana Wilbanks has noted. “The ger is very much like what we today call ‘resident alien.’ He or she may be a refugee or an immigrant, settling into the community but still as an outsider who brings a different communal identity.

  • Between Liminality and Transgression: Experimental Voice in Avant-Garde Performance
BETWEEN LIMINALITY AND TRANSGRESSION: EXPERIMENTAL VOICE IN AVANT-GARDE PERFORMANCE _________________________________________________________________ A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Theatre and Film Studies in the University of Canterbury by Emma Johnston ______________________ University of Canterbury 2014 ii Abstract This thesis explores the notion of ‘experimental voice’ in avant-garde performance, in the way it transgresses conventional forms of vocal expression as a means of both extending and enhancing the expressive capabilities of the voice, and reframing the social and political contexts in which these voices are heard. I examine these avant-garde voices in relation to three different liminal contexts in which the voice plays a central role: in ritual vocal expressions, such as Greek lament and Māori karanga, where the voice forms a bridge between the living and the dead; in electroacoustic music and film, where the voice is dissociated from its source body and can be heard to resound somewhere between human and machine; and from a psychoanalytic perspective, where the voice may bring to consciousness the repressed fears and desires of the unconscious. The liminal phase of ritual performance is a time of inherent possibility, where the usual social structures are inverted or subverted, but the liminal is ultimately temporary and conservative. Victor Turner suggests the concept of the ‘liminoid’ as a more transgressive alternative to the liminal, allowing for permanent and lasting social change. It may be in the liminoid realm of avant-garde performance that voices can be reimagined inside the frame of performance, as a means of exploring new forms of expression in life.

KAVIN ROWE I was so grateful to learn that many people appreciate the great opportunity provided by the Divinity Annual Fund. ~ Goodie Bell, D’13 Ministry Made Possible by You Here’s an important question: How many people does it take to make possible a seminary education? Answer: Unlimited—and your help is needed! Goodie Bell came to Duke Divinity School after spending time in campus ministry. She knew God was calling her to service for the church, and she wanted to pursue this call and be trained here with faculty and students who were committed to the church. But she never could have afforded the tuition on her own. That’s where the supporters to Divinity Annual Fund come into the picture. With help from the annual fund, Goodie is about to graduate and go into ministry—a ministry made possible by friends and donors who believe in the importance of God’s church and well-prepared ministers. Every gift makes a difference. Every gift is welcome. Join us today with a gift to Divinity Annual Fund, and make ministry possible. • Hope for the Hurting Advent – Part 3
McLean Bible Church Dr. David Platt December 22, 2019 Hope For the Hurting Advent – Part 3 If you have a Bible—and I hope you do—let me invite you to open with me to Ruth 3. Is not the book of Ruth incredible? Today we come to part three of three in this lead-up to Christmas in the book of Ruth. For those of you who are wondering what in the world this story has to do with Christmas, today is your day. Today we come to the climax of this story, to the ending of all endings and the surprise of all surprises. Have you ever read a book or watched a movie when something happens at the end that makes you look back at everything that happened before and think, “Now it all makes sense”? That’s going to happen today in a way that I pray will encourage you and maybe change your life. I know there are people visiting here today, some may be home from college or visiting family or friends here at Christmas. Regardless of the reason, I don’t believe it is an accident that any one of you is here today to hear this story that has the power to change your life. Some of you might find yourselves putting on one of these tee shirts and being baptized as a follower of Jesus in a way that you did not see coming. We have a lot of ground to cover, so let’s jump right in. If you’ve missed one or both of the last two weeks, let me summarize the story so far.

  • Redemption in Bethlehem: the Story of Ruth
©2012 Scott King REDEMPTION IN BETHLEHEM The Story of Ruth ©2012 Scott King 1 ©2012 Scott King 2 5 A FEW WORDS ABOUT THIS BOOK 7 INTRODUCTION 9 WEEK ONE: Sovereignty 19 WEEK TWO: Grace 29 WEEK THREE:©2012 Scott King Refuge 39 WEEK FOUR: Redemption 51 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS 3 ©2012 Scott King 4 A few words about this book… As we move into the Christmas season, you hold in your hands a Bible study guide for use throughout the Advent season… one that’s focused on the Old Testament short story known as Ruth. A little odd? Maybe. Or maybe not. While Ruth is certainly not a traditional Advent text, there are some striking parallels. Ruth is a beautifully written narrative all about redemption through love. Like the gospel itself, Ruth begins with death, but ends resoundingly with life. Ruth is set in the small Hebrew town of Bethlehem. The story revolves around one who is undeserving of love and grace, but freely receives it due to the kindness of another. And, (spoiler alert!), the story ends with Ruth becoming the great-grandmother of King David and humbly stepping into the lineage of Jesus Himself. We’ll consider this beautifully written story as we journey together through the Advent season this year. With each section of this incredible story, we’ll look at one of the characteristics of our great Redeemer: His sovereignty, His grace, the refuge He gives, His redemption, and finally, on Christmas Eve, the Redeemer Himself. My encouragement for each of us as we walk through this season together is that we use the studies within this book to deepen our understanding©2012 Scott of King this story, and thereby, our understanding of the gospel as well.

  • Christ the Lord: the Road to Cana Free
FREE CHRIST THE LORD: THE ROAD TO CANA PDF Anne Rice | 352 pages | 05 Feb 2009 | Cornerstone | 9780099484189 | English | London, United Kingdom Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana - By Br. Benet S. Exton It was a genuinely stirring display of piety, rich with the fruits of Ms. Emboldened by the success of this literary shape-shifting, the formerly raunchy Ms. And as it jumps forward toward the adulthood of its narrator, the new Ms. Rice steers the story toward passions that the old Ms. Rice understood. Rice describes this stage of his life with awe and respect. And she gives him a crush on one of his relatives, a year-old girl. Does he care about nothing but carpentry? Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana he devoid of interest in women? So the cattier residents of Nazareth seem to think. But Ms. Some of this historical detail calls for awkward mouthfuls of exposition. But the book is clear in purpose and bound for glory from this point on. And Ms. Here is when Yeshua transforms water into wine. Rice presents this miracle as she has the other biblical events on which her fiction is based: she decoratively embroiders the Gospels while fully respecting their message. In her version, the wedding becomes that of Avigail, who is an entirely fictitious character. The absence of wine at the wedding becomes calamitous, though the Bible describes it without alarm. Christ the Lord: The Road to Cana maintains. The book ends on a note of best-sellerly promise, mindful of how much more is yet to come.
