Audience Anecdotes “Theatre Week is an essential item on the varied menu that Philadelphia offers in hope of providing greater access to to theatre for all. "A rising tide lifts all boats."” Because ticket prices were so affordable I was able to convince two friends, one who does not regularly see Philly theater and one who didn’t have much interest in the show, to attend. Not only did they have a great time, they had not known one another prior to the show! This Theater Week promotion exposed us to a theater and company we had never heard of before, so thank you for that. It was an incredible deal for such an incredible performance. I am absolutely attending next year! We had planned to celebrate our mothers 78th birthday by going to see an Off-Broadway play. We were so happy to find out about Philly Theatre Week because we saved money and travel time and more importantly we experienced a moving, yet funny interactive play performed by very talented performers!! It's exciting to be in the city and have so much culture around. The show was extremely well done, I still talk about it with friends and look for similar performances in the area. It was wonderful to create new pathways. Producer Anecdotes ● Theatre Philadelphia and Philly Theatre Week are doing a great job at expanding the reach and marketing arm of our sector. ● Theatre Week increases audience awareness of small theaters like ours, and makes us feel included in the theater community. ● We were able to get large reviewers to come to our small and intimate show, and their reviews helped all of the artists involved move to the next level. ● We were amazed to see how many audience members had not heard of our organization prior to Theatre Week. We also had the best turnout for an event in recent memory. ● It was wonderful to see such a wide range of shows being offered; it was like the community's whole artistic self in a nutshell. ● As far as increasing awareness of ALL the great theatre in Philadelphia, I think Theatre Week knocked it out of the park. ● Good Cuban Girls centered around a Cuban family and the traditions that shape you as a person. A Latin group from Haverford college heard about our workshop reading and scheduled a trip to attend, and at the end stated that it was the very first time they saw themselves and their family on a Philadelphia stage! The have been looking do something like this for a while and were moved that they have found us. ● Most of the people who came to our reading were people we didn't know, which was an incredible surprise! ● I was surprised by the amount of people who attended that were from the area but didn’t know the arts scene was thriving like this. ● Great diversity of participants; age, experience level, race, ethnicity, etc. ● I love the genuine support given to organizations that are trying to grow in size. It is helpful and it is definitely shown through action! ● It was great to connect to so many other organizations during Philly Theatre Week, there was a sense of renewed energy and excitement with all of the original programming. PTW united our community. 2020 Philly Theatre Week Save the Date Submissions Open: August-November 2019 Tickets On Sale: January 7th, 2020 Theatre Week: February 6th-16th, 2020.

  • Shakespeare in Love
FEB Shakespeare 26 MAR in Love 29 Based on the screenplay by Marc Norman & Tom Stoppard Adapted for the stage by Lee Hall Music by Alex Bechtel Directed by Matt Pfeiffer Welcome to Shakespeare in Love. Every year, many of you cry out to us “Dear God, no more Shakespeare!” While others plead “I loved your Winter’s Tale, your Richard III. Please put on Midsummer. I beg you for a Twelfth Night.” With Shakespeare In Love, the Purists and the Never Barders may unite to curse us with a plague on both our houses, but if they — and you — are someone who loves love, well then . Here is a love letter to romantic love, to the theatre, and to the rebellious, transgressive, mysterious, and glorious madness of both. Whether you keep Shakespeare close to your heart or far from it, we invite you to celebrate what he loved most: the stage, its players, poetry . and a dog. Zak Berkman, Producing Director Lend me your ears Matt Pfeiffer, Director I’ve been really blessed to spend most of my career working on the plays of William Shakespeare. I believe his plays are foundational to Western culture. Love him or hate him, his infuence is an essential part of our understanding of stories and storytelling. And I’ve had the privilege for the last six years of fostering a specifc approach to his plays. I found that attempting to be in conversation with the principals of the theatre practices of Shakespeare’s time was a good starting place—not so much aesthetically, but logistically.

The energy this cast brings to the stage will make you want to get up and dance to the iconic music from the legendary Bee Gees. I’m thrilled to share this electrifying production with you.
