The Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival Finds New Home at Chabot Space & Science Center

An Entire Weekend of Film Presentations and Cinema Education Workshops

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Oakland, CA, August 20, 2013): Chabot Space & Science Center and the Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival (BAICFF) have entered a partnership agreement to host the 6th annual film festival at the science center, located in Oakland. The film festival has gained a reputation for screening engaging cinematic works and conducting popular film education workshops specifically for the young and the young at heart.

Touted as a festival where “education and imagination collide,” the event presents animated, live-action, short, and feature length films. Interested applicants throughout the globe are encouraged to submit entries through October 31, 2013. The festival attracts submissions from the international community culminating in a full line-up of high-quality family-friendly, culturally-diverse films.

Held over a two-day weekend, the popular festival also hosts hands-on cinema workshops for visitors. Past workshop topics have included sand animation, zoetrope building, pixilation and Claymation. BAICFF has presented over 185 films and held workshops for over 200 children designed to introduce kids to the world of animation and live-action filmmaking.

Founded as a school fundraiser by Pixar Story Artist, Jim Capobianco, the festival has grown over the years and was looking to stretch its wings. Chabot Space & Science Center has been a leader in offering engaging STEM and STEAM activities in the community for many decades. Home to activities, classes, and exhibits that cater to both youth and adults, Chabot is poised to host an event of this nature which turns interest and inquest into experiential exploration guided by leaders and innovators in the industry.

The festival runs January 25 & 26, 2014. Chabot Space & Science Center has a full-dome planetarium and Imax style theatre available for screening so visitors can expect a fully immersive feel. Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival was founded in January 2009 when The Renaissance School and Screen 360: Films for Children of the World produced the first Bay Area International Children’s Film Festival in the San Francisco East Bay. The festival began as a creative community event to support educational programs that foster global understanding and cultural exchange. BAICFF has since produced five annual film festivals, presented over 185 family-friendly films of high artistic value from around the world, and held workshops for over 200 children designed to introduce kids to the world of animation and live-action filmmaking.
