FLAUM VAN KREUZEN Volume #01

The art of Flaum van Kreuzen even unacademic, it is about is best characterized by it’s forgetting what has been technique (or rather the lack learned to open a way for truth of it) and a work process and poetry through this open- that can be described as minded, intuitive and often „irreversible decision making“. destructive process. There is no concept in the beginning, no sketch, not even The aforementioned „irreversible a basic groundwork laying out decision making“ is the key any obvious thoughts in this factor in the studio. By approach. It is purely honest, layering multiple backgrounds unpretentious, unintentional on top of each others - or even and unfiltered - and a litte bit painting upon painting - going lost. back into the surface again and again, ripping parts away This way, no painting is the afterwards, by accident and same, there are only few deliberately, disassembling repetitive elements or patterns already constructed surfaces that are applied to, say, a using whatever is available at series of work. Every single the moment, van Kreuzen creates painting is a new beginning with effects that simply can not be an unforeseeable result for the repeated, or even covered up artist. Sure, there may be an if it all goes wrong. There identifiable style and certain is neither flaw nor genius in basic recurrent factors, and the artists‘ impulsive and maybe even a few similar ones, immediate decision. but nothing is following a greater plan. The vision of The message? Abstract painting van Kreuzen is simple: let makes it difficult, but if you everything go, just roam free can decipher or even read it: We until you find the moment the need a better world. One where work is finished - or let it find assholes don’t run the asylum, you. one where we feed everyone and save the ones needing to be However, you can not deny saved, where riches are shared craftsmanship and experience and killing, racism, oppression within the work. It is not about and greed are not tolerated being untrained, unskilled or but fought. The anger in the work is also directed at the often greedy, self-indulgent, egomaniacal, narcissistic, illoyal and purely capitalistic part of the art world.

To achieve „all this“, van Kreuzen-paintings are created in a punk-rock kind of way, destroying pencils and brushes and surfaces and using (as well as trashing) all kinds of materials, found and constructed, on a path to create a visionary result that is as intense as it is fragile.

Flaum van Kreuzen is a new artistic outlet by Jörg Heikhaus. No secret Spin-Off, no alternative reality, it is just like another band project - like crossing lines between Mr. Bungle and Tomahawk. Alex Diamond and his trademark woodcuts will most likely remain Jörg’s main artistic endeavor, this excursion into abstraction simply gives him the opportunity to go completely outside the box.

Flaum van Kreuzen does not strive to be anyone or anything the art world needs. It’s just another way to create to the rhythm of a different drum. The end of a Superpower, 2020
