May 18, 2016 For Immediate Release WATCH MODERAT’S “RUNNING” VIDEO https://youtu.be/tVawpT44Hrk MODERAT KICK OFF NORTH AMERICAN TOUR THIS FRIDAY MODERAT’S III OUT NOW VIA MUTE/MONKEYTOWN ModerAt, the alliance of electronic heavy weights, Modeselektor and AppArAt, kick off their North American tour in support of new album, III, this Friday in New York. They’ll be joined throughout by longtime creative collaborators, PfadfiNderei, who will take the reins on visual production. Last week, Moderat announced the release of the album’s second single, “RuNNiNg,” which presents a highly emotive kind of pop, built for dancing, but never simple. Today, the trio reveals the single’s visual accompaniment, directed by JAkob GruNert. Grunert uses the incessant momentum of “Running” to narrate a pilot’s final flight in the Mojave Desert. After abandoning his plane in an aircraft boneyard, the pilot grapples with the frailty of purpose and the pursuit of rebirth. The story goes hand-in-hand with Apparat’s description of “Running” in that the song is about being part of a mass that constantly needs to move to function, but a mass that’s not deciding directions by itself. Mute/MoNkeytown will release “Running,” featuring the exclusive b-side, “90% WAsser,” on May 20th. The digital bundle includes remixes by Shed and KiNK. The “RuNNiNg” 10”, available July 1st, will feature both remixes, and the “RuNNiNg” 12”, available July 15th, will feature the original track and exclusive b-side. • Some Albums to Keep Your Toes Warm This October Pt 2
Some Albums To Keep Your Toes Warm This October Pt 2. Bittles‘ Magazine | Record Review I was arm-wrestling a tiger the other day (my editor told me I had to make the beginning of my articles more exciting) when I suddenly realised that I had no time for such frivolity as I had some great albums to review. Quickly admitting defeat, I retreated to my listening studio (bedroom) and immersed myself in some of the fantastic records that will be hitting the record store shelves this October. By JOHN BITTLES We have the UK house of Huxley, the indie bleakness of Grouper, the disco diva-isms of Munk, the techno bass of Distal and so much more. But really, in a month when there is, finally, a new album by Glaswegian duo Slam, there is only one place we can begin. Stuart McMillan and Orde Meikle have long been established as bona fide legends of the house and techno scene! Their record label Soma is over 400 releases old, their DJ sets at clubs like The Sub Club and The Arches in Glasgow are discussed with an air of awed reverence, and, as Slam, the duo have released some of the finest electronic music known to man. And now, in the year 2014 they give us their first album in seven years with the deep and moody brilliance of Reverse Proceed. The cinematic ambience of Tokyo Subway, Visual Capture and the title track open proceedings and are the perfect introduction to the deliciously deep sounds to come. In fact it’s not until the techno futurism of Synchronicity that we even get our very first sign of a beat.

  • Most Underrated Band of All Time?
:: View email as a web page :: For the past 15 years, Manchester Orchestra has been one of the most popular emo bands on the planet. The one person who has been there every step of the way is founding singer-songwriter Andy Hull, who started the band when he was in his teens and has charted his own growing-up process with each album. Manchester Orchestra has also matured a lot over the years, evolving from an intense and volatile post-hardcore outt on albums like 2009’s Mean Everything To Nothing to the expansive and philosophical indie rock of their latest, The Million Masks Of God, which drops next week. Along the way, they’ve managed to somehow grow their audience while retaining committed fans who connected with the early records as teenagers, including famous acolytes like Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker. “Even though everything did well at that time, it wasn’t really accepted by critics and ‘cool’ people,” Hull recently mused about his back catalogue, “and that totally worked in our favor, because it still holds up. It sounds, to me, pretty timeless.” Ahead of the release of The Million Masks Of God, Hull reected on every Manchester Orchestra LP, candidly breaking down the myriad fascinating dramas that marked the process of making each record. Check it out here. -- Steven Hyden, Uproxx Cultural Critic and author of This Isn't Happening: Radiohead's "Kid A" and the Beginning of the 21st Century In case you missed it... It looked as though I was going to be late again. Which certainly would not help mollify the Board. I saved five minutes by wearing yesterday's shirt instead of studding a clean one and by leaving my breakfast juice to grow warm and sticky on the table. But I lost the five minutes again by trying to call Kathy. She didn't answer the phone and I was late getting into the office. Fortunately--and unprecedentedly--Fowler Schocken was late too. In our office it is Fowler's custom to hold the weekly Board conference fifteen minutes before the regular opening of the business day. It keeps the clerks and stenos on their toes, and it's no hardship to Fowler. He spends every morning in the office anyway, and "morning" to him begins with the rising of the sun.

  • Perfect Partner
PERFECT PARTNER A film by Kim Gordon, Tony Oursler and Phil Morrison starring Michael Pitt and Jamie Bochert, with a live soundtrack performed by Kim Gordon, Jim O’Rourke, Ikue Mori, Tim Barnes and DJ Olive As a significant figure of alternative/avant-garde rock and one of the founders of Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon is a truly creative spirit. Enigmatic, iconic, original and multi- faceted, she is increasingly working in the medium of visual arts and diversifying her music projects into more experimental territory. Perfect Partner is a first time collaboration between Kim Gordon, highly renowned artist Tony Oursler and acclaimed filmmaker Phil Morrison. In a response to America’s enchantment with car culture, this surreal psychodrama-cum-road movie starring Michael Pitt (The Dreamers, Hedwig And the Angry Inch, Bully and Gus Van Sant’s upcoming Last Days) and Jamie Bochert unfolds to a thundering free rock live soundtrack. The sound world of Perfect Partner is textural improvised music breaking into occasional songs that interact with the narrative of the film. Kim Gordon is joined on stage by fellow Sonic Youth collaborator, producer extraordinaire, composer and School Of Rock collaborator Jim O’Rourke, percussionist Tim Barnes, laptop virtuoso Ikue Mori and turntablist DJ Olive. Audiences across the UK should fasten their seatbelts for an invigorating trip through live music, video and projection in this one-off cross media adventure. Gordon and Oursler’s shared fascination with the dream lifestyle promised by car manufacturers, and the aspirational language of car advert copy (selling cars as our ‘perfect partner’), provided the inspiration for this hugely inventive project.
