Vitis vinifera is the common grape vine. It's been with us since at least the Neolithic period and has been used by man ever since. Grapes are actually reasonably hardy, but if you do live in a cooler climate it's advisable to grow them in a greenhouse where they will flourish and grow at a rapid rate.
