Rationale for Twinning Programme 2. The rationale behind this innovative programme is that it offers a powerful alternative to four walled classroom chalk and talk method. It aims to explore new dimensions of learning which will provide and enable the students to understand and respect cultural differences and help in creating committed, disciplined and productive individuals. Objectives of twinning programme: 3. The major objectives of the programme are: a. To bring all students on one common platform; b. Enable both the partner schools to adopt best practices from each other; c. Share experiences and learn jointly d. Develop the spirit of Comradeship e. Get an exposure to the strength and weakness of self and others; f. Provide opportunities to the teaching fraternity to adopt better and more effective practices; g. Develop a sense of interdependence and understanding towards each other; h. Recognize the gaps and make efforts to bridge them; i. Instil a spirit of sharing, caring and togetherness, etc. Twinning under Cultural Exchange Activity 4. Samagra Shiksha, Delhi undertook twinning of schools in the Cultural Exchange Activity under Sub Component-'Special Projects For Equity' of Major Component `Gender & Equity' in this session, in which Upper Primary students from Government Schools were twinned with students from corresponding classes from Minority(including Linguistic Minority) Schools. The "Twinning" initiative was undertaken to provide for a healthy inter-action to enhance unity, peace and harmony by creating a mutual respect for the diversity. After receiving very positive and encouraging feedback of the twinning exercise, it is now being extended to all schools of Delhi. Twinning of Schools 5. The twinning of Schools has been done at following levels- a) Parent and feeder school b) Morning shift and evening shift school c) Government and unaided school d) Government and aided school e) School of Excellence and Government school RPW and Government school 6. The Sarvodaya Vidyalayas have been twinned at Primary level with MCD Schools and at Upper Primary & Secondary level with other Secondary schools. The list of twined schools district wise is enclosed. Suggestive Guidelines for Twinned schools: 7. The suggestive guidelines for the twinned schools are as follows: a) The HoS of the twinned schools should form a joint Plan of Activity (PoA) for the session, keeping in mind the objectives of the Twinning Initiative as listed above. b) The PoA should clearly mention- i. Classes to be twinned ii. Teacher In-charge for the activity in each school. iii. Areas/Fields in which twinned schools shall work together. It could be in ✓ Academics ✓ Cultural activities ✓ Sports ✓ Excursions ✓ Club activities iv. Joint celebration of important days like Independence Day, Republic Day, Children's Day etc, by rotation in each school. v. Organise student exchange programmes. vi. Arrange joint workshops on topics from various subjects. vii. Conduct subject-wise joint Faculty Meetings. viii. Organise Science Exhibition. ix. Invite students of twinned schools to conduct morning Assembles. x. Inter school competition in Sports can be held. xi. Celebrate Labour Day by felicitating the Sub-staff of twinned schools. xii. Share and adopt best practices of each other. xiii. Gap filling- The twinned schools should complement and compensate scarcity in each other's schools through sharing of resources, be it teachers, laboratories, libraries, Playground etc. xiv. Holding of joint Annual day Function, Sports day etc. 8. The above are just some suggestive guidelines. The schools should devise their PoA keeping in mind, the specific needs and requirements of their respective twinned school. The aim is to help, support and lift each other up through harmonious co-existence, fostering a spirit of oneness among the students, the school staff, the HoS. 9.
