Epi /Bulletine/ Week 31,2020 Page Number 1 Ethiopian Public Health Institue Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin 31, 2020 Cholera: is ongoing in SNNPR and Oromia region, a total of 239 suspected Cholera cases and 4 deaths were reported during the week. The highest 235(98%) were reported from SNNPR followed by 4(2%) from Oromia region. All of 4 deaths were reported from West Omo zone of SNNPR. West Omo zone of the region shared the highest number of cases and deaths during the week. During the last four weeks from week 27-31, 2020 , a total of 40 associated deaths were reported from SNNP region. See below Figure. Epi /Bulletine/ Week 31, 2020 Page Number 2 Ethiopian Public Health In- Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin No 31, 2020 Weekly Diseases Summary The weekly surveillance data received from regions is summarized in Table 1 below. Table 1: Summary of surveillance data, Weeks 1-31, 2020, Ethiopia AFP: A total of 8 suspected AFP cases were reported during the week. Of total 5 reported cases, 2(40%) suspected cases were from Somali region, 1(20%) was reported from Addis Ababa city, Benishangul Gumuz region and Dire Dawa city for each. No cVDPV2 and VDPV2 cases were reported this week. The highest 25(52%) suspected measles cases were from Oromia region followed by 19(40%) from Amhara region and 3(6%) cases were from SNNPR. See figure below. Anthrax: A total of 20 Suspected Anthrax cases without death were reported during the week. Of all 20 suspected cases, 19(95%) suspected cases were reported from Amhara region. Neonatal tetanus (NNT): One suspected Neonatal case with 1 death were reported nationally during the week. One of the suspected case was reported from Dera Hospital of Oromia region and 1 death was reported from BuleHora Hospital of Oromia region. BuleHora Hospital has been reported 1 death during week 30, 21020. Highest 5(63%) maternal deaths were from Oromia region followed by 2(25%) from SNNP region and 1(12%) was reported from Dire Dawa city. See figure below. Malaria: A total of 25,538 confirmed and clinical cases without death were reported during the week, which showed 2360(9%) cases decrement as compared to the last week. Highest 8,499(33%) cases were from Amhara region followed by 4,963(20%) cases were from SNNP region and 3173(12%) cases from Benishangul Gumuz region. See figure below Epi /Bulletine/ Week 31, 2020 Page Number 5 Ethiopian Public Health Institue Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin No 31, 2020 Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM): During the week, a total of 5,703 SAM cases and 3 deaths were reported, which showed 368(6%) cases decrement as compared to last week. The highest 2335(41%) SAM cases were reported from Oromia followed by 1587(28%) from Somali region and 726(13%) from SNNP region. Of total 3 deaths reported, 1 deaths was from Oromia region (Ginir Town of Bale Zone Zone), 1 death was from Amhara region (Gendewuha woreda of West Gondar- zone) and 1 death was from Bonga Hospital Of SNNPR. See figure below. Scabies: A total of 4,845 scabies case were reported during the week, showed 72(2%) cases decrement as compared to the last week. Highest 2025(42%) scabies cases were from Oromia followed by 1692(35%) cases were from Amhara and 411(8%) from Tigray region. Relapsing fever (RF): A total of 63 relapsing fever (RF) cases without death were reported during the week, showed 17(21%) cases decrement as compared to the last week. Highest 29(46%) RF cases were reported from Oromia followed by 14(22%) were reported from Somali region and Addis Ababa city for each. Meningitis: A total of 98 suspected meningitis cases and 2 death were reported during the week, which showed 9(14%) case increment as compared to last week. The highest 37(38%) suspected cases were from Oromia, followed by 27(28%) cases from Tigray region and 10(10%) were from Somali region. Two of deaths were reported from Jenella woreda of Harari region.     2004 Update Ethiopia Page - 2 Ethiopia HIV/AIDS estimates In 2003 and during the first quarter of 2004, UNAIDS and WHO worked closely with national governments and UNAIDS/WHO Working Group on Global research institutions to recalculate current estimates on people living with HIV/AIDS. These calculations are based on the previously published estimates for 1999 and 2001 and recent trends in HIV/AIDS surveillance in HIV/AIDS and STI Surveillance various populations. A methodology developed in collaboration with an international group of Global Surveillance of HIV/AIDS and sexually experts was used to calculate the new estimates on prevalence and incidence of HIV and AIDS deaths, as well transmitted infections (STIs) is a joint effort of as the number of children infected through mother-to-child transmission of HIV. Different approaches were WHO and UNAIDS. The UNAIDS/WHO Working Group on used to estimate HIV prevalence in countries with low-level, concentrated or generalised epidemics. Following the delay and erratic performance of the belg/spring rains in 2016, a Prioritization Statement was issued in May 2016 with updated humanitarian requirements in nutrition (MAM), agriculture, shelter and non-food items and education.The Mid-Year Review of the HRD identified 9.7 million beneficiaries and updated the funding requirements to $1.2 billion. The 2016 HRD is 69 per cent funded, with contributions of $1.08 billion from international donors and the Government of Ethiopia (including carry-over resources from 2015). Under the leadership of the Government of Ethiopia delivery of life-saving and life- sustaining humanitarian assistance continues across the sectors. However, effective humanitarian response was challenged by shortage of resources, limited logistical capacities and associated delays, and weak real-time information management. This Periodic Monitoring Report (PMR) provides a summary of the cluster financial inputs against outputs and achievements against cluster objectives using secured funding since the launch of the 2016 HRD.
