WHO'S WHO WHO'S WHO Cozi Zuehlsdorff as Ellie Blake Kahyun Kim as Torrey Min Zuehlsdorff starred in the films Dolphin Tale, Dolphin Tale Kim's TV work includes Austin and Ally, Mysteries of Laura, I Ship It, 2 and Pure Country 3: Pure Heart, and appeared in the TV series Shameless, Adam Ruins Everything and Cassandra French's Monday Mornings, Live and Maddie, K.C.     AUGUST 2014 WELCOME It’s an intergenerational summer here at The Old Globe. Across the plaza in the Lowell Davies Festival Theatre, we are producing one of Shakespeare’s first plays, if not his very first: The Two Gentlemen of Verona, a piece about young men, adolescent love, and the dawning of adulthood. Here in the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center, on the stage of the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, we explore a different phase of life, as the four characters in Ronald Harwood’s Quartet come to terms with life, love, and friendship after retirement. To explore those rich themes in Quartet, we reap the great benefit of four performers with decades of experience to their credit. Robert Foxworth, of course, is a beloved Associate Artist of The Old Globe, last seen here in Other Desert Cities. He is joined by the acclaimed Elizabeth Franz, at long last making her Globe debut, as is seasoned Shakespearean Roger Forbes. The final member of the play’s quartet, Jill Tanner, returns to the Globe after a 30-year absence. And who better to lead such a team of actors than our own Richard Seer? Rick’s deft hand at comedy, his skill at staging in the round, and his ability to bring out the heart of a piece are all on ample display here. This one is more biographical in nature, with more intimate and personal situations from their childhood to the present day. Set in a museum, it brings together man’s evolution and the intersection of people’s lives into the Now. Here. This. Everything that leads to living in the “now,” being “here” and having “this.” Appreciate it all, because it comes around only once and goes oh-so-quickly. Definitely not frivolous, this is thoughtful entertainment that doles out equal doses of heartfelt humor, humanity, and hindsight. Everything that happened in the past has a way of resurfacing and affecting the present and even the future. The foursome have taken incidents from their past, whether they were good, bad, harmful or pleasurable, and brought them to focus for themselves as well as for the audience. For surely all of us have experienced the same feelings, whether in our adolescence, teens, or adulthood. It is a way to see the similarities in ourselves, have a chuckle at our foibles, and hopefully have grown from the past.

Plus it can get pretty humid, so your skin is going to look amazing. HB: Yeah, it’s going to be supple. I’m gonna look like a dewy 18-year-old. That’s what SKYLER GRAY: we all strive for once we are over 35. HEIDI! SG: So let’s jump in. We both grew up in Fresno, CA and performed at the same dinner theatre: Good Company Players (GCP). Can you talk about how you got into theatre? HEIDI BLICKENSTAFF: SKYLER! HB: Well first of all, I was obsessed with movie musicals as a kid. I was harmonizing with Barbra Streisand records by three—my mom was obsessed with Barbra—and she knew I was a weirdo. So she started showing me movie musicals, like the old, great ones: SG: We’re so excited to have you join us in Singin’ in the Rain, Oklahoma! and Hello, Houston soon! Dolly! And my uncle had a video store—and we’re talking the early 80’s. Not many HB: I’m so excited! I have not been to people were obsessed with movie musicals Texas in at least twenty-five years. I spent a like I was and there was a whole section summer in Fort Worth, doing summer stock that no one rented, so he would send all at the Hip Pocket Theatre. Nederlander or “Jimmy,” Chairman of The Nederlander Organization, was the visionary theatrical impresario who built one of the largest private live entertainment companies in the world known for producing and presenting world-class entertainment since 1912. Jimmy started working in the theatre at age 7 sweeping floors for his father, David Tobias (D.T.) Nederlander, in Detroit, Michigan. During a career that spanned over 70 years, Jimmy amassed a network of premier legitimate theatres including nine on Broadway: the Brooks Atkinson, Gershwin, Lunt- Fontanne, Marquis, Minskoff, Nederlander, Neil Simon, Richard Rodgers, and the world famous Palace; in Chicago: Auditorium and Private Bank Theaters, Broadway Playhouse, Cadillac Palace, and Oriental Theaters; in Los Angeles: The Pantages; and in London: the Adelphi, Aldwych, and Dominion. He produced over one hundred acclaimed Broadway musicals and plays including Annie, Applause, La Cage aux Folles, Les Liaisions Dangereuses, Me and My Girl, Nine, Noises Off, Peter Pan, Sweet Charity, The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickelby, The Will Rogers Follies, Woman of the Year, and many more. You probably already know book writer Rick Elice’s work—he’s the author of the Tony Award-winning Jersey Boys, as well as Peter and the Starcatcher and The Addams Family. If you don’t yet know composer Michael Patrick Walker, you’re in for a treat; his star is on the rise, and DOUG GATES you’re about to learn why. Plus, director Roger Rees Managing Director Michael G. Murphy and Artistic Director Barry Edelstein. makes his long-awaited return to the Globe after helming The Merry Wives of Windsor and Love’s Labour’s Lost here over a decade ago, and he has assembled a cast of some of the great musical theatre performers working today: Heidi Blickenstaff, Beth Leavel, Eric William Morris, Nicole Parker, and Jon Pat- rick Walker. The Old Globe has an international reputation as a successful incubator for new musicals. The dozens of shows we’ve developed include Into the Woods (returning to the Globe this summer!), The Full Monty, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Allegiance—A New American Musical, and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, which just received 10 Tony Award nominations for its ongoing Broad- way run. The scarecrow, lion, and tinman archetypes are expanded into a community of friends and family, using memory and dreams, to reveal scars that block our view. In her quest to find home, she continually learns the lesson of letting go of the past and embracing the h-e-r-e.
