BROADWAY CLOSE UP * Fall 2014 Season * Get an Insider’s Look at Musical Theater.

Broadway Close Up takes theater lovers behind the scenes of musicals old and new with eye- opening interviews and inspiring performances by some of Broadway’s greatest talents. This year, audiences will get to know Jason Robert Brown, Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist of The Bridges of Madison County, and the songs of Gypsy songwriter Jule Styne. At Hallelujah, Broadway! some of the greatest songwriters of the 20th century address Heaven, God and the big eternal questions. The annual Bound for Broadway hosted by Liz Callaway will showcase some of the best new shows on their way to New York theaters.

Mon, Oct 6, 7:30 pm Bound for Broadway with Liz Callaway, host This annual event hosted by Tony nominee and Emmy winner Liz Callaway gives audiences a sneak peek at some of the best new musicals on their way to New York theaters. Past shows have included , Avenue Q and The Drowsy Chaperone. This year’s Bound for Broadway will feature songs and stories from these new musicals plus a fifth TBA:

Tuck Everlasting – Based on the book by Natalie Babbitt. Music by Chris Miller; lyrics by Nathan Tysen; book by Claudia Shear.

Ever After – Music by Zina Goldrich; book & lyrics by Marcy Heisler.

Date of a Lifetime – Music by Rob Baumgarten, Jr.; book & lyrics by Carl Kissin.

When We Met – Music & lyrics by Julianne Wick Davis; book by Dan Collins in collaboration with Sally Wilfert & Michael Winther

Mon, Oct 27, 7:30 pm Jason Robert Brown Sean Hartley, host Bridges of Madison County composer/lyricist and Tony winner Jason Robert Brown has been hailed as “one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters since ” (Philadelphia Inquirer). Best known for his dazzling scores for musicals like the recently revived The Last Five Years (Drama Desk Awards for Best Music and Lyrics) and the seminal Parade (Tony, Drama Desk and New York Drama Critics’ Circle Awards), he will discuss his past and present projects – and what it’s like to work with stars like Kelli O’Hara! Broadway Close Up gets metaphysical at this light-hearted celebration of Heaven, God and the eternal questions as framed by the great writers of Broadway. Featuring music by , Frank Loesser, Kurt Weill, George and Ira Gershwin, Stephen Schwartz, Rodgers & Hammerstein and Bock & Harnick. Featuring Tony nominee Barbara Walsh (Hairspray) and othersTBA.

The Songs of Jule Styne David Loud, musical director, arranger and host “Any composer who could write for both a Sinatra and a Streisand in one lifetime is lucky,” observed Jule Styne, whose career spanned the Big Band Era, Hollywood and Broadway. With the scores of such Broadway classics as Gypsy, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, , Bells Are Ringing, and Funny Girl to his credit, Styne ranks as one of the undisputed architects of the American musical theater. Working with lyricists like Betty Comden, Adolph Green and Stephen Sondheim, his shows are filled with such unforgettable hit songs as “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “The Party’s Over,” “People” and “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.” The cast includes Tony nominee Howard McGillin (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, The Phantom of the Opera), (Lennon), Matthew Scott (Jersey Boys, Sondheim on Sondheim), Kate Baldwin (Tony nominee for Finian’s Rainbow), Heidi Blickenstaff ([]) and others TBA.
