November 2007 The Subfamilies Eulophinae, Entedoninae and Tetrastichinae in Iran, with description of new species (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) Zoya YEFREMOVA, Ebrahim EBRAHIMI & Ekaterina YEGORENKOVA Abstract This paper reflects the current degree of research of Eulophidae and their hosts in Iran. A list of the species from Iran belonging to the subfamilies Eulophinae, Entedoninae and Tetrastichinae is presented. In the present work 47 species from 22 genera are recorded from Iran. Two species (Cirrospilus scapus sp. nov. and Aprostocetus persicus sp. nov.) are described as new. A list of 45 host-parasitoid associations in Iran and keys to Iranian species of three genera (Cirrospilus, Diglyphus and Aprostocetus) are included. Zusammenfassung Dieser Artikel zeigt den derzeitigen Untersuchungsstand an eulophiden Wespen und ihrer Wirte im Iran. Eine Liste der für den Iran festgestellten Arten der Unterfamilien Eu- lophinae, Entedoninae und Tetrastichinae wird präsentiert. Mit vorliegender Arbeit werden 47 Arten in 22 Gattungen aus dem Iran nachgewiesen. Zwei neue Arten (Cirrospilus sca- pus sp. nov. und Aprostocetus persicus sp. nov.) werden beschrieben. Eine Liste von 45 Wirts- und Parasitoid-Beziehungen im Iran und ein Schlüssel für 3 Gattungen (Cirro- spilus, Diglyphus und Aprostocetus) sind in der Arbeit enthalten. -

Section IV – Guideline for the Texas Priority Species List Associated Tables The Texas Priority Species List……………..733 Introduction For many years the management and conservation of wildlife species has focused on the individual animal or population of interest. Many times, directing research and conservation plans toward individual species also benefits incidental species; sometimes entire ecosystems. Unfortunately, there are times when highly focused research and conservation of particular species can also harm peripheral species and their habitats. Management that is focused on entire habitats or communities would decrease the possibility of harming those incidental species or their habitats. A holistic management approach would potentially allow species within a community to take care of themselves (Savory 1988); however, the study of particular species of concern is still necessary due to the smaller scale at which individuals are studied. Until we understand all of the parts that make up the whole can we then focus more on the habitat management approach to conservation. Species Conservation In terms of species diversity, Texas is considered the second most diverse state in the Union. Texas has the highest number of bird and reptile taxon and is second in number of plants and mammals in the United States (NatureServe 2002). There have been over 600 species of bird that have been identified within the borders of Texas and 184 known species of mammal, including marine species that inhabit Texas’ coastal waters (Schmidly 2004). It is estimated that approximately 29,000 species of insect in Texas take up residence in every conceivable habitat, including rocky outcroppings, pitcher plant bogs, and on individual species of plants (Riley in publication). -

The Francesco Vitale Sicilian collection of Apionidae is critically revised. Ho- plopodapion poupillieri (Wencker, 1864), Ischnopterapion (Ischnopterapion) aeneomicans nothum (Desbrochers des Loges, 1897) and Pseudoprotapion dumeei (A. Hoffmann, 1957) are recorded for the first time from Sicily and Italy; Omphalapion laevigatum (Paykull, 1792) is recorded for the first time from Sicily, whereas the presence on the islandof Aizobius sedi (Germar, 1818) and Acentrotypus brunnipes (Boheman, 1839), until now considered doubtful, is confirmed. All species quoted from Sicily by Vitale are listed and commented. In addition, the previous citation of Ceratapion (Echinostroma) basicorne (Illiger, 1807) from Cyprus is attributed to Ceratapion (Echinostroma) curtii (Wagner, 1920) and C. curtii is recorded for the first time from this country. Brief comments on our current knowledge of the apionid fauna of Sicily are also included. 1. Introduction Francesco Vitale (Messina, September 17, 1861 – Messina, February 9, 1953) was an enthusiastic amateur entomologist whose field work was of great importance for the knowledge of the Sicilian beetle fauna. From 1881 to 1942 he published about 100 scientific works, many of which dedicated to the study of the superfamily Curculionoidea. In 1889 he published his first note on the then genus Apion, a report full of biological and chorological data on the 52 species collected by him from 1884 to 1888 in the surroundings of Messina, and including some considerations on the 72 species of Apionidae then reported from the whole of Sicily. -

The mitochondrial genome of Apion squamigerum (Coleoptera, Curculionoidea, Brentidae) and the phylogenetic implications Nan Song1, Xinxin Li1, Xinming Yin1, Xinghao Li1, Shengjun Yin2 and Mingsheng Yang3 1 College of Plant Protection, Henan Agricultural University, Zhengzhou, China 2 Department of Chinese Medicine, The Second Hospital of Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin, China 3 College of Life Science and Agronomy, Zhoukou Normal University, Zhoukou, China ABSTRACT In this article, we present the nearly complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of the weevil beetle Apion squamigerum (Curculionoidea, Brentidae), assembled using data from Illumina next generation sequencing (NGS). This mitogenome was found to be very large, with the total length of 18,562 bp. Two trnM genes were identified. A large non-coding intergenic spacer spanning 1,949 bp occurred between trnI and trnM2. Combined with 111 existing weevil mitogenomes, we conducted phylogenetic recon- structions based on various datasets under maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference. Firstly, phylogenetic analyses robustly supported a sister group of A. squamigerum and Rhopalapion longirostre, namely, that two species of Apioninae (Brentidae) formed a clade. Within the entire Curculionoidea, the Nemonychidae diverged firstly, following the families Anthribidae and Attelabidae. In addition, a large clade comprising the sister families Brentidae and Curculionidae was strongly supported in all trees.
