Important Info Regarding Tournament Participation for OHSAA Individual myOHSAA Tournament Participation for OHSAA Individual Sports This memo contains helpful information regarding tournament participation and entry for the OHSAA individual sports of bowling, cross country, , gymnastics, swimming and diving, , track and field, and wrestling. Tournament Entry: Beginning this school year (2018-19), the OHSAA has added a feature that allows a high school participating in an OHSAA individual tournament to indicate whether they will be entering individuals or a team. This information is extremely helpful for the District Athletic Boards to properly plan your entry level tournament. District Athletic Boards that assign schools to sectional/district sites have a very hard time balancing the number of teams and individual participants at each site without knowing your school’s participation intent. If you have not already done so, please login to your high school’s myOHSAA account and properly set your school’s tournament participation for individual sports on the first contest date. NOTE: The sectional golf and girl’s tennis tournaments are quickly approaching, so please set golf and girls tennis TODAY! Girls Participating on Boys Teams: If your school has girls that participate on the boy’s team in an OHSAA individual , please read the information below to ensure you understand the tournament entry process for these student-athletes. Golf: Girls that participate as a member of the boy’s golf team during the regular may enter the OHSAA girl’s golf tournament as individuals OR participate in the OHSAA boy’s golf tournament. They cannot participate in both tournaments. In order for these female golfers to participate in the girl’s golf tournament as individuals, your school must have “Golf-Girls” checked under “Sports Offered” AND “Yes – 3 or less participants” selected under the Tournament Entry link. In addition, the school must receive the required state rules meeting credit for Golf – Girls to be eligible for the OHSAA girl’s golf tournament. If the boy’s golf coach is also the girl’s golf coach at your school, make sure this coach has roles of Head Boys Golf Coach and Head Girls Golf Coach listed in Staff Management. Use the “Edit Roles” option on the coach’s listing in staff management to add girl’s golf. If the girl’s head golf coach is different from the boy’s golf coach, the girl’s golf coach would need to be listed in staff management and would have to receive credit for the state rules meeting in order for the school to be eligible to participate. Please contact Lauren Prochaska ([email protected]) or membership services if you have questions. Tennis: The OHSAA sport of tennis is unique in that girls compete in the fall while the boys compete in the spring. Therefore, if your school’s tennis coach coaches both boys and girls, please make sure that their roles are accurately marked for both sports in staff management. State rules meetings are required for both girl’s and boy’s tennis. Coaches completing the state rules meeting for girl’s tennis will receive credit for boy’s tennis in the same school. If your boy’s tennis coach received credit for the tennis state rules meeting in the fall, this credit will transfer to your school for boy’s tennis prior to the start of the boy’ s tennis meeting around February 1, 2019. Please contact Andrea Heiberger ([email protected]) if you have any questions. Cross Country: Girls that participate as a member of the boy’s cross country team during the regular season may enter the OHSAA girl’s cross country tournament as individuals OR participate in the OHSAA boy’s cross country tournament. They cannot participate in both tournaments. In order for these female runners to participate in the girl’s cross country tournament as individuals, your school must have “Cross Country - Girls” checked under “Sports Offered” AND “Yes – 4 or less participants” selected under the Tournament Entry link. In addition, if the boy’s cross country coach is also the girl’s cross country coach, make sure this coach has roles of Head Boys Cross Country Coach and Head Girls Cross Coach listed in Staff Management. Use the “Edit Roles” option on the coach’s listing in staff management to add both sports. If the girl’s head cross coach is different from the boy’s cross country coach, make sure both are listed in staff management. Please contact Dale Gabor ([email protected]) if you have questions. Bowling: No student may bowl on both a boys’ team and a girls’ team during the same school regular season. See Bowling Sports Regulation 3.2 for more information. Girls that participate as a member of the boy’s bowling team during the regular season may enter the OHSAA girl’s bowling tournament as individuals OR participate in the OHSAA boy’s bowling tournament provided the school does not have a separate girl’s bowling team. They cannot participate in both tournaments. In order for these female bowlers to participate in the girl’s bowling tournament as individuals, your school must have “Bowling - Girls” checked under “Sports Offered” AND “Yes – 4 or less participants” selected under the Tournament Entry link. In addition, the school must receive the required state rules meeting credit for Bowling – Girls to be eligible for the OHSAA girl’s bowling tournament. If the boy’s bowling coach is also the girl’s bowling coach at your school, make sure this coach has roles of Head Boys Bowling Coach and Head Girls Bowling Coach listed in Staff Management. Use the “Edit Roles” option on the coach’s listing in staff management to add girl’s bowling. If the girl’s head bowling coach is different from the boy’s bowling coach, the girl’s bowling coach would need to be listed in staff management and would have to receive credit for the state rules meeting in order for the school to be eligible to participate. Contact Andrea Heiberger ([email protected]) if you have any questions. Gymnastics, Swimming and Diving, Track and Field: These sports have individual events in which athletes participate as individuals and may be awarded team points based on the athlete’s overall results. Boy’s and girl’s scores are compiled separately. For tournament entry, the school must ensure that the genders are correctly marked in both Sports Offered and Tournament Entry on the school’s myOHSAA account to participate in the OHSAA tournament. In addition, if the coach is the same for both genders, make sure the coach is marked as both the Head Boys Coach and Head Girls Coach in Staff Management. Use the “Edit Roles” option on the coach’s listing in staff management to make this change. If the coaches are different, make sure that each coach is listed properly in staff management. OHSAA state rules meetings are required for these sports. To ensure the coach’s credit is transferred to the school, please check staff management often to ensure your coaches are listed correctly for the sports they coach. Wrestling (Individual Tournament and Dual Team Tournament): The OHSAA sponsors two tournaments in the sport of wrestling. The first tournament is the Dual Team Wrestling tournament which is a team tournament and takes place in early February. Schools must be able to field a minimum of seven weight classes to be eligible for this tournament. The deadline for team dual wrestling tournament entry and withdraw is December 13, 2018. All other OHSAA tournament requirements apply. The second OHSAA wrestling tournament is the individual tournament which begins in late February and ends in March. Schools enter individual wrestlers into this tournament. To ensure your school’s wrestling tournament entry is set properly for both wrestling tournaments, please login to your school’s myOHSAA account prior to December 13. In addition, state rules meeting is required for wrestling and participation in either tournament. To ensure the coach’s credit is transferred to the school, please check staff management often to make sure your wrestling coach is listed correctly in Staff Management.
