Activity infor- mation and athletic information is grouped for ease of access. Common by-laws are grouped to decrease duplication of information. Section 1: School Essential By-Laws Section 2: Student Essential By-Laws Section 3: Athletics By-Laws Section 4: Activities By-Laws Section 5: Procedural By-Laws Section 6: Registered Officials Decimal Numbering System: The Official Handbook utilizes a decimal numbering system for the by-laws, which provides efficiency and flexibility. A particular by-law number signifies three things: the SECTION, the SUBSECTION, and the PART. For example, By-Law 3.15.5 can be found in Section 3 (Athletic Activity By-Laws), Subsection 15 (Sport Participation and Contact - During the Summer), Part 5 (General Requirements). Further subsections are denoted using, first, letters, then numbers, then parenthetical letters, etc. [for example: By-Law 3.13.2.a.2(c)]. Section and subsection headings assist the user in identifying the section and subsection content, thus facili- tating ready access to pertinent by-laws. Handbook Updates: New wording within the Handbook is underlined, and areas of emphasis are in bold text. Diagrams are in- cluded for informational and reference purposes only and are not part of the by-laws they serve to summarize. Editorial and formatting changes are not underlined. Abstract Faster bat speed allows a baseball or softball player more time to decide how to hit the ball and provides more transfer of momentum to the ball (Nathan, 2003; Syzmanski, DeRenne, Spaniol, 2009). Purpose: This paper examines the effectiveness of three training strategies for improving bat speed among high school baseball players. Methods: Nine high school students were recruited and separated into 3 groups using different training implements. A standard bat (29 oz.), a weighted bat (45 oz.), and Therabands attached to a standard bat were used over a 3-week training program. Data were analyzed using a Kruskal-Wallis ANOVA. Results: The standard bat group experienced no change in bat speed (± 0.89), while the weighted bat group increased by 1.9 ± 0.46 mph and the Theraband group improved by 3.1 ± 0.38 mph. The only significant difference was in the change in bat speed between the Theraband group and the standard bat group (p = .022). All other data were non-significant. Conclusions: Attaching Therabands to a standard bat may be an effective training tool to improve bat speed. Keywords: bat speed, standard bat, theraband, weighted bat, training implements 1.

    Blues Advisory Group Terms of Reference 1. Preamble Sport has always had a special significance at the University of Melbourne, particularly the success of our student-athletes in their endeavours in representing the University against other institutions. Blues were first awarded by the University for cricket and rowing for sporting contests in 1870. They were adopted along the lines of those awarded by Oxford and Cambridge universities where students were selected for annual sporting competitions with Full Blues awarded for major sports and Half Blues awarded for minor sports. Similar principles still apply to the awarding of Blues today with Full Blues awarded for a student’s outstanding sporting achievement whilst representing the University in approved inter-university competitions, and Half Blues awarded where sporting performance is excellent, but not of a Full Blue standard. 2. Composition The Blues Advisory Group is appointed by the University of Melbourne’s Board of Sport (the Board) and is comprised as follows: 2.1.     THE CARL FRICKS SPORTSMANSHIP SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTED BY THE SPORTS COMMISSION ASSOCIATES PAST RECIPIENTS | 2009 - 2017 LEOR GOLDFARB - 2017 LADUE HIGH SCHOOL The Sports Commission Associates awarded Leor Goldfarb its top Sportsmanship Scholarship honor for 2017. The Ladue varsity wrestling and lacrosse captain will receive $10,000 to begin his college education. Leor’s class, humility and selflessness eclipse any feat he has achieved on the field or on the mat. In the semifinals of the district wrestling tournament, Leor was down seven points to his opponent from Hannibal. Late in the second period, Leor was injured by an illegal slam from his opponent. The referee gave him two options: He could have his opponent disqualified for the illegal move and automatically advance to the state finals or forfeit the match and allow his opponent to advance. Leor chose to forfeit the match and let his opponent move on to state. In a letter to the Ladue superintendent, Hannibal coach Derek Greening said, “I am not sure how many individuals and coaches would make the same decision. It takes an enormous amount of character and class to make a decision like this. In 16 years of coaching, I have seen many students default for much less to guarantee themselves a win.” This is just one instance that exemplifies Leor’s sportsmanship. He’s known for being supportive of teammates and opponents alike, and as relayed by his athletic director, Leor “knows what happens in sports is greater than the outcome of the game or match being held.” MATT FERENCE - 2017 LAFAYETTE HIGH SCHOOL Matt Ference played football and baseball at Lafayette High School, but it is the way he channeled his talent into remarkable kindness that makes him worthy of the Sportsmanship Scholarship.

In addition, more than 170 sessions and workshops will look at one or more of the following hot topics identified by the TRB Executive Committee: Transformational Technologies: New technologies that have the potential to transform transportation as we know it. Resilience and Sustainability: How transportation agencies operate and manage systems that are economically stable, equitable to all users, and operated safely and securely during daily and disruptive events. Transportation and Public Health: Effects that transportation can have on public health by reducing transportation related casualties, providing easy access to healthcare services, mitigating environmental impacts, and reducing the transmission of communicable diseases. Poster Sessions Convention Center, Lower Level, Hall A (new location this year) Poster Sessions provide an opportunity to interact with authors in a more personal setting than the conventional lecture. The papers presented in these sessions meet the same review criteria as lectern session presentations.     Northwestern State Intramurals COVID VOLLEYBALL/BASKETBALL GUIDELINES 1. All sign ups must be done on IMleagues prior to the event. All rosters must be filled out in their entirety to verify student eligibility. You must show your student ID to play but will not turn in your student ID to staff. 2. Intramural Staff & Participants’ temperature will be checked upon entry into the gym. Only one door will be used for entry. 3. Only players and coaches on rosters will be allowed in the gym during scheduled game/match times. NO fans or extra guests will be allowed in the gym during game/match times. All players and coaches should exit facility immediately at the conclusion of play. 4. Games/matches will be scheduled with an extra 15 minutes apart to allow facility to clear. 5. Only one basketball game and one volleyball game will be scheduled at a time. 6. Student IDs will not be collected during the games/matches but must be shown upon entry of the gym. 7. Pinnies and jerseys will not be distributed by Intramural Staff. Teams must provide their own jerseys with numbers to play. 8. No group huddles between teams will be permitted on the court. NO handshakes at the end of the game. NO high fives during the game. 9. No early warmup is allowed in the facility while scheduled games are playing. Teams will be afforded a 10-minute warmup once they are allowed in the gym. This may be modified and reduced to accommodate the schedule. FACE COVERING PROTOCOLS ALL players and coaches MUST always wear a protective face covering when entering the gym.
