Strategy EXECUTIVE SUMMARY INTRODUCTION The "Economic Strategy Action Plan for Bournemouth Dorset & Poole", produced in June 2008, aims to build a more competitive and sustainable economy for the sub-region. Although the economy has grown significantly in recent decades it is generally accepted that the sub-region is not as productive as it should be and is a relatively low wage economy. The aim therefore is to ‘raise the game’ through a ‘quest for quality’ in terms of the business environment and local employment that will deliver better economic performance and a better quality of life. It is recognised by all partners that ensuring economic success in the future requires deliverable employment sites to be identified now. The importance of maintaining a flexible and responsive supply of employment land, sites and premises is clearly established in the Regional Economic Strategy (RES). A specific activity of the Delivery Framework accompanying the RES is to: ‘deliver sustainable sites and premises for business growth’. The South West Regional Development Agency

    Chapter 7: Highway Schemes and Roads 7. Major Highway Schemes and Local Plan Road Improvement Programme Introduction 7.1. This chapter sets out proposals for development of the highway infrastructure of East Dorset, while the previous Chapter set out general policies. It meets the requirements of Planning Policy Guidance by providing an indication of the time scales and priorities for proposed transport infrastructure, especially major road schemes. The programme of road schemes is limited to those on which the Highway Authorities intend to commence work within the District Plan period up to 2011. Schemes which are required as prerequisites to future development are also included: the phasing of these schemes is dependent upon developer time scales and the level of developer funding attracted. 7.2. Also contained in this chapter are proposals for major road schemes, which because of their very nature cover large corridors of land and cannot be contained within the boundary of any one local area. In such cases the local area chapters contain a cross reference to this chapter. 7.3. Where it is intended to safeguard land from development this will appear as a ‘safeguarded line or corridor’ on the proposals map. For the sake of clarity this chapter also lists major road schemes which have previously been safeguarded and are now to be abandoned. The Strategic Road Network Trunk Road Programme 7.4. The Department of Transport is responsible for trunk road proposals, which are directly financed by the Government. The primary function of the trunk road network is to facilitate the movement of long distance traffic.

    Salisbury Central Area Framework Public Consultation Report (Jan - Feb 2020) 1 1. Introduction 1.1. Wiltshire Council has produced a Salisbury Central Area Framework (CAF) which makes a series of recommendations for future development in Salisbury’s city centre area. 1.2. The CAF project was borne out of the recovery work in the city following the nerve agent attack in March 2018, which had a profoundly damaging impact on the city centre economy. At the time of writing Salisbury, along with the rest of the world, is now in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis. While the impact of the pandemic has delayed the work on the CAF, the shutdown and economic fallout has made the need to plan proactively for the city centre even more acute. It has accelerated the urgency to deliver the recommendations of the CAF in order to support Salisbury in its long-term recovery from both tragic events. The plans and projects within the CAF form an essential part of Salisbury's bounce back from these events. 1.3. The CAF makes a series of recommendations for deliverable development initiatives within the city centre area to help aid the city’s recovery. It is intended to serve as an evidence-based document to inform the Wiltshire Local Plan Review, the emerging Salisbury Neighbourhood Plan and future planning guidance documents as appropriate. 1.4. The council has undertaken two stages of in-depth public consultation on the CAF. The first was a consultation on a series of broad themes for the CAF between Thursday 27th June and Friday 9th August 2019 and the second was on a draft CAF between Thursday 16th January and Friday 28th February 2020.
