I have spent time looking at them and believe they are an improvement on the previous County Council ward boundaries. I very much support the LGBCE proposal for Canford Heath. Canford Heath is, and always has been, one community. It has been artificially divided into two wards for the purposes of elections. However, Canford Heath residents are often confused as to which ward of Canford Heath they live and these proposals will remove that confusion. Three councillors to represent the proposed Canford Heath ward are sufficient. The Joint Committee’s proposal to include Johnstone and Kenyon Roads into Canford Heath would serve to separate these areas from their existing community linkage with the Oakdale ward; the Dorset Way does present a strong ward boundary for Canford Heath and also reflects the extent of the Canford Heath community. I am also extremely supportive of the inclusion of housing, retail and leisure facilities at Yarrow Road into the Canford Heath Ward. As a councillor I have always worked well with the management of the leisure and retail facilities because properties in Canford Heath are very close geographically and residents are affected by the activities carried out. Their inclusion into the Canford Heath ward would make the relationship between ward councillors, the Council and the management of the leisure and retail facilities into a stronger and more permanent feature which I know would be helpful and much appreciated by everyone involved. I am a ward councillor for Redhill and Northbourne in the North of the area. I think the changes to my ward make sense as it links people with their natural communities and neighbours. Around the rest of the area, whilst considering the local authority suggests to be a strong contender I accept there may be reasons for other ideas. The mixing of some areas across Bournemouth and Poole does help show a single integrated community, as they are in practice, your recommendation 74 is a prime example. The roads around Exeter Road and Crescent are more naturally in the Town Centre than Westbourne. I am not sure if you suggest comes from the map or a site visit but Exeter Road really is in the town centre. With reference to recommendation 50 you might consider if Poole Road might be a more logical boundary for the Canford Cliffs ward. Kinson North, Redhill and Northbourne and Wallisdown and Winton West I agree with the recommendation 41 that Wallisdown and Winton West should be replicated in the new council’s arrangements. We agree with the recommendation 43 regarding the disposition of mobile home parks and Milford Drive area into Kinson North, The Cherry Tree Nursery into Redhill and Northbourne and the Bear Cross Avenue area together with the even‐numbered properties on Kinson South Drive, Paget Road and West Howe Close into Kinson South. Alderney and Bourne Valley, Newtown, Talbot and Branksome Woods I agree with recommendations 48‐50 regarding the division of the Branksome ward, the inclusion of both sides of Alder road with the current Alderney Road and the inclusion of the Talbot Heath area with Talbot Woods. We however suggest that with reference to recommendation 50 that Poole Road is a more logical boundary with Canford Cliffs ward. Bournemouth Central, Canford Cliffs and Westbourne and Westcliff I agree with recommendation 64 regarding Westbourne and Westcliff. I object however to recommendation 65 as those roads around Exeter Crescent and Exeter Road are effectively separated by a steep hill from Westbourne and clearly relate geographically and from a community perspective with the centre of Bournemouth. Therefore they should be retained in the Central Ward. Bearwood and Kinson South and Broadstone and Merley I agree with the recommendation 74 regarding the future housing potential of Bearwood being included in the new Bearwood and Kinson South ward. Best regards Cllr Nick Rose C/O Town Hall, Bournemouth 1 8/21/2018 Local Government Boundary Commission for England Consultation Portal Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council Personal Details: Name: May Haines E-mail: [email protected] Postcode: Organisation Name: Borough of Poole Comment text: The BC is proposing to reduce the geographic area of Canford Cliffs ward so that some residences in Lilliput are taken into Penn Hill ward and others in Poole Road and Lindsay Road are adopted by Talbot & Branksome Woods ward. Of the changes proposed, we'd challenge just one of them: The proposal to split Lindsay Road down the middle for most of its length and move to the next ward the residences on the north side of Lindsay Rd, starting from the apartments at St Aldhelm's Place (25 Lindsay Rd) and ending at the "The Lindsay" (47a Lindsay Rd). Our view is that Lindsay Rd should remain intact in the current ward. The local district is Branksome Park which lies entirely in the current Canford Cliffs ward. An historic wall defines the northern boundary of the Branksome Park Estate and it encompasses those residences on the north side. The wall is of a height and solidity that those residences don't interact with Poole Road to the north. Indeed they are not accessed from Poole Road and can barely be seen from the north side. In contrast, the residences' orientation, frontage and access - and their entire presence in the community - is south-facing to the Lindsay Road. Residents in this area are proud to identify themselves with Branksome Park, and some have lived here for a considerable number of years. The residents' association for Branksome Park and Canford Cliffs has been in existence since 1948 and is headquartered in one of those residences on the north side. A split of the territory would jeopardise this organisation and split the community, moving over 400 residents into a ward they don't identify with.
