It is a delightful area, boasting beautiful beaches, tree lined streets, good local shops and restaurants, a bustling and thriving community. We hope that this guide helps you to get to know the area a little better, and also that it can help support the local businesses in your community. Local Area Guide – BH13 – Written by Sharon Westman Branksome Park, Canford Cliffs, Penn Hill, Sandbanks, Westbourne and West Cliff BH13 AREA MAP, BH13 6 & BH13 7 Local Area Guide – BH13 – Written by Sharon Westman Branksome Park, Canford Cliffs, Penn Hill, Sandbanks, Westbourne and West Cliff TRIED & TESTED DUNE Hairdresser - 29 Haven Road, Canford Cliffs, BH13 7LE - 01202 706661 When I moved to the area it was important for me to find a new hairdresser. And after having been loyal to my previous hairdresser for 15 years I knew it would be a big task. I did my research and visited 5 different salons before making my choice. Dune was the first one I went into, and the last, to book an appointment! I was surprised at the great variety of salons available to people, but Dune for me fitted exactly what I wanted. It had a cosy and friendly feel and the staff were so welcoming. And having been there several times now, I know my decision was the right one. My thanks to the team, I look forward to being your customer for the next 15 years, at least! The Plantation Pub/Restaurant - 53 Cliff Drive, Canford Cliffs, BH13 7JF - 01202 701531 This establishment has a welcoming feel to it, and when I met with the manager about this guide, I was blown away by her enthusiasm and positivity. All the staff are, friendly and attentive, and there is a light yet cosy atmosphere here. I have been several times simply to relax with a cup of tea or to catch up on some work with a bottle of sparkling water. We booked in for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Arriving early, a couple of the cocktails were sampled by me – worth a try I must add, very refreshing. Menus were offered while we waited and we were promptly taken to our table at the booked time. The menu offered a traditional choice of meals alongside some more unique and interesting choices, which was perfect for our tastes, which are very different. In summary, we had a truly fabulous meal, not a negative comment or even a constructive criticism in sight, which is odd for me, being so particular! But one thing we definitely have to share is that Iain always has to ask for extra gravy with a roast! Not at The Plantation, it came with the ideal amount, perfect. You must give it a go if you have never done so. And if you have tried it already, go back, we will be. Local Area Guide – BH13 – Written by Sharon Westman Branksome Park, Canford Cliffs, Penn Hill, Sandbanks, Westbourne and West Cliff THE CLIFF Pub/Restaurant - 6 Ravine Rd, Poole BH13 7HX - 01202 492921 The Cliff is a sophisticated bar and restaurant. Great for enjoying a chat with a friend over a cocktail, for a business lunch or coffee, a birthday get together or a Sunday lunch. It has a cosy yet elegant feel to it. You can easily enjoy a romantic meal for two at a softer lit table, or a family gathering in a brighter lit area, the space can accommodate any occasion. The menu offers some great pub classics along with some individual choices. We went for the Sunday roast, which was well cooked, good sized and tasty to top! With a good choice of wines, real ales, and beers, you’re sure to find a drink that will suit. I certainly did, a stand out Romanian Sauvignon Blanc that I can definitely recommend. Also, not many establishments provide a good selection of non-alcoholic drinks. But, The Cliff offers many, including mocktails. So, whether a non-drinker, or the designated driver, you will not be disappointed. I think this shows how much The Cliff thinks about its customers which is marvellous. It has a generous beer garden, that is due to be rejuvenated shortly, ready for the summer. I look forward to sharing the before and after photos! I will be back there soon, when a friend of mine is due for a visit, cocktails am sure! CAFF Café - 6 Banks Rd, Sandbanks, BH13 7QB – 01202 700464 The perfect venue for a quick coffee, long lazy lunches, fresh smoothies after a jog along the beach or a cosy CAFF hot chocolate on a cold winters day! This is one of the places we came across soon after moving. We just called in for a quick cup of coffee the first time, but the delightful menu got us back a second time, and many more afterwards. It is a busy little place that has an atmosphere of fun and community, we love it. The food is something else too. It may just say a ‘burger’ or a ‘bagel’ but trust us, they are out of this world. This will certainly be a frequent haunt of ours, and we look forward to bringing friends and family to try it out too. OXFORDS Delicatessen - 23 Haven Road, Canford Cliffs, BH13 7LE - 01202 701700 A family bakery and Deli, with strong links to local producers. Hosting a fabulous selection of fresh meats, breads and cakes. Also, selling items like cheeses, preserves and condiments etc. A great place to go and have a nosey at as you will be surprised what they can offer. But we cannot go without mentioning that Iain had the best beef and horseradish sandwich ever here! Local Area Guide – BH13 – Written by Sharon Westman Branksome Park, Canford Cliffs, Penn Hill, Sandbanks, Westbourne and West Cliff THE COFFEE SALOON Café - 9 Haven Rd, Canford Cliffs, BH13 7LE My husband would say I am fussy, I say I am particular! But because of that my tastes can be often difficult to meet. Some people may say, “coffee is coffee”, but certainly not me, and I have to say I had the best tasting flat white coffee in this café before heading to have my hair done at Dune. Offering coffee, of course, but also a good selection of other hot and cold drinks, and food. LOCH FYNE Restaurant/Hotel - 47 Haven Road, Canford Cliffs, BH13 7LH - 01202 609000 We booked in for Iain’s birthday at the beginning of February. The check-in process was quick and easy and our room was good value for money. Nothing extravagant, ideal enough for a place to stay after our meal later that evening. The restaurant itself is larger than it looks from the outside, with a coastal design and ambience. Despite being predominantly a fish restaurant, it also offers a good choice of other dishes for variety. Good size portions and nicely cooked food. Have a feeling this will be a great summer place to go to as well as in the quieter season. SEASCAPE Yoga/Holistic Therapy/Beauty - 25a Chester Road, BH13 6DE - 07875 235 284 I went to try Lucy for a manicure and pedicure. Being honest I was a little apprehensive not going to a ‘traditional’ salon. But, now I am happy to say that Lucy has a customer for as long as she offers her services. Professional, yet friendly and warm, I felt the most relaxed I ever have for such a treatment. Her facilities provide a quiet and peaceful environment and I quickly started to leave any stresses behind. I have also booked in for a course of her Yoga classes so I will feedback on those too, but I am already looking forward to attending, I have a feeling it will be like no other Yoga I have experienced either. Thank you, Lucy. They explained what we needed and how it would all work and they fitted a discreet alarm and CCTV system efficiently and with very little disruption, cleaning up after themselves too! A friendly team of people who we highly recommend. Thanks to Charlie, Bradley and all the team involved, it was a pleasure. As and when we have tried more places, we shall update the guide and share our thoughts.
