EXTENSIVE CURRICULUM Our students can choose from a wide selection of courses each semester. Students may specialize in a particular field of law or they may choose a general concentration in American law. At USC, we attract bright and talented individuals from all over the world. Since USC Law implemented its international programs, we have hosted students from around 70 different countries spanning 6 continents. Not only are our students DIVERgeographically and ethnically diverse, they also bring significant diversity- in legal experiences: they are attorneys, judges, government officials, prosecutors, corporate legal counsel, bankers, and recent law graduates. Our students bring a rich array of experience, legal knowledge, and cultures to the law school.

Each year, approximately 200 G&IP students join with roughly 600 J.D. students in a variety of challenging legal courses. As with our international students, we strive SITYto attract a diverse group of J.D. candidates: these students come from around 75 different leading undergraduate universities across the United States and the world.

Our students are provided with the opportunity to interact with each other within and outside of the classroom. USC fosters relationships through the J.D./LL.M. Partnership Program, which pairs J.D. and LL.M. students together in peer mentor relationships. The program helps students bridge cultural and language barriers, as well as build new friendships. Each year around 180 J.D. and LL.M. students are partnered, and students participate in lunches, coffee breaks, happy hours, and other events scheduled throughout the school year.

This program allows professions to attend the legal courses in which they are most interested. To qualify for admission to the LL.M. program, applicants must have earned their first law degree (LL.B. or equivalent) outside the United States. To qualify for admission to the M.C.L. program, applicants must have earned their first law degree (LL.B. or equivalent) outside the United States and will have earned an LL.M. degree prior to enrollment in the M.C.L. Program.

Admission for all Graduate & International Programs is highly selective and those admitted will have excellent law school records, strong letters of recommendation, and strong English language ability, as demonstrated by their TOEFL or IELTS score and personal statement. Although not required, some work or research experience following completion of a degree in law is preferred. The Admissions Committee carefully evaluates all parts of each application. TOEFL OR IELTS REPORT Submit your TOEFL or IELTS scores directly to LSAC. Note: we recommend a TOEFL score of 100 on the internet-based test. Applicants may submit an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score in place of a TOEFL score if they request their IELTS scores to be sent directly to LSAC at the time of the exam. A score of 7 on the IELTS is recommended.

TRANSCRIPTS AND DEGREE VERIFICATION Submit your official transcripts from all colleges, universities, or graduate schools from which you have received a degree directly to LSAC along with the degree certificate/diploma. All transcripts and degree certificates/ diplomas must be written in the original language of instruction and must be accompanied by a notarized English translation.

PERSONAL STATEMENT Provide a short (1-3 pages) statement that describes your personal, academic and professional background, as well as your reasons for and goals in seeking the degree.

FINANCIAL AID Financial aid for international students is very limited. International applicants requiring financial aid should make every effort to obtain assistance from their governments or other outside sources. U.S. citizens and permanent residents should contact the Graduate & International Programs office for assistance in securing financial aid through USC.

SCHOLARSHIPS All USC Gould School of Law LL.M. applicants receive full consideration for our limited number of merit-based scholarship awards each year. No application is necessary. Those who are awarded a scholarship will be notified upon receiving their offer of admission. While applicants are welcome to submit a brief letter about their scholarship qualifications through LSAC when applying to the LL.M. program, this is not required.
