Trojans Move Up in Coaches Division II Poll Virginia State (9-1) jumped from 25th to 22nd ac- cording to the latest Coaches Association (AFCA) Poll. -4- Coach Latrell Scott On Jan. 14, 2013, a new era in Virginia State football was ush- ered in with the hiring of Latrell Scott as head coach. The 23rd head football in Virginia State history. The veteran of 13 years of collegiate coaching served as head coach at Richmond in 2010, leading the Spiders to a 6-5 mark.

The Richmond native and Lee- Davis High graduate was a three- year starter at tight end at Hamp- ton where he earned All-Ameri- can recognition as a senior. He helped lead the Pirates to two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference crowns and a pair of NCAA Play- off berths.

The 38-year old Scott began his coaching career as an assistant coach at Fork Union for two sea- sons. Following a one-year stint at Western Carolina and two years at VMI, Scott was named an assistant coach at Richmond in 2005. He spent three seasons as wide receivers coach, assistant head coach and recruiting coor- dinator.
