JCSU would not be able to muster much on their next posses- sion, as Lane was sacked twice, forcing JCSU to punt. Wingate took over with 6:03 to go, but the Golden Bulls defense stiffened, forcing Wingate to punt. With just 1:55 to play, JCSU wasn’t able to advance past their own 26 yard line and was forced to punt. Following a 56-yard punt by senior Matias Lambrecht (Venice, Fla.), Wingate ran out the clock to take the win.

Offensively, Lane led the Golden Bulls, finishing with a 12-of-28 performance for 227 yards and two touchdowns, while throwing one interception. Junior Gabriel Yuille (Baltimore, Md.) led the receiving corps with 4 catches for 67 yards and a score, while Carter had two catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Demarcus Berry (Vanceboro, N.C.) hauled in an 82 yard catch while Dozier had a 16 yard reception.

On defense, Thomas finished with 13 tackles and two intercep- tions while Basir Wright (Douglasville, Ga.) had 11 tackles and one pick. Brice Smith (Atlanta, Ga.) played well on the defensive line, securing two tackles-for-loss and a sack on the afternoon.

After a JCSU punt, ECSU was able to tie the game when Davi- on Council rushed for a six-yard score with 1:39 left. Neal then rushed up the middle for the two-point conversion to knot the score at 28-28.

JCSU’s JeJuan McCalston (Covington, Ga.) then took the kickoff 49 yards, but an illegal block on the Golden Bulls pushed the ball to the 21-yard line to begin the game-winning drive. After mov- ing the ball to the JCSU 32 following two completions to Eugene Holmes (Columbia, S.C.) and a 6-yard rush by Herbin, Demarcus Berry (Winterville, N.C.) hauled in a 25-yard pass to the ECSU 34 by dragging a toe on the far sideline. An unsports- manlike penalty on the Vikings set the Golden Bulls up at the Viking 19-yard line with 32 seconds remaining.

On the next play, Herbin saw senior Rod Carter (Miami, Fla.) streaking to the endzone and delivered a near-perfect pass that Carter could not haul in, but a pass interference penalty gave JCSU the ball at the ECSU 9-yard line. After an incompletion and a holding penalty on JCSU backed the Golden Bulls to the 20, Binyard rushed up the middle to the Viking 16 forcing JCSU to call a timeout with three seconds remaining. ECSU then called a timeout in an attempt to ice the JCSU kicker.

Lambrecht, a product of Venice, Fla., then trotted onto the field and knocked in the kick, his first career field goal, that set off celebration from the JCSU bench. 18 #STAMPEDE 2016 RECAPS - BOX SCORES

After another Chowan touchdown made it 40-7, freshman Rathel Carter (Winston-Salem, N.C.) hauled in his first career score, a 13-yard pass from Herbin to make it 40-14 at the 8:21 mark. Chowan then capped the scoring, this time on a 1-yard Williams reception to provide the 47-14 final.

Offensively, Herbin finished with 140 yards passing on a 14-of-34 effort while throwing a touchdown and two interceptions. Tromecio Summers (Charlotte, N.C.) led the JCSU ground effort, rushing for 51 yards on four carries while Eugene Holmes (Columbia, S.C.) caught five passes for 73 yards.

JCSU would not be able to get anything going, as the Rams took over at their 50 and marched down to the JCSU 23. Johnson’s 40- yard field goal as time expired in the first half missed wide right, making the score 6-0 at halftime.

Six plays later, Johnson again lined up for a field goal, this one from 40-yards out, but JCSU’s Bryant Wilson (Augusta, Ga.) blocked the attempt setting JCSU up at their own 32.

JCSU quarterback Harold Herbin (Fayetteville, N.C.) then con- nected with senior Roderick Carter (Miami, Fla.) for a 63-yard touchdown strike, bringing JCSU to within 9-7 with 3:37 left in the third quarter. Following a WSSU punt, the Golden Bulls took the lead when Herbin found Gabriel Yuille (Baltimore, Md.) for a 38-yard touchdown pass, giving JCSU the 14-9 lead with 14:52 left.

On the ensuing WSSU possession, the Rams methodically marched 85 yards in 18-plays capped by a Kerrion Moore 1-yard touchdown rush to go up 15-14. After the teams traded punts, JCSU had one last drive to pull out the upset, after a completion to Yuille and two incomplete passes, JCSU’s Herbin was sacked with five seconds remaining on a fourth-and-three play to allow WSSU to escape with the narrow win. 20 #STAMPEDE 2016 RECAPS - BOX SCORES Quickie Statistics (Final) Fayetteville State Grounds Out 37-21 Win over JCSU Johnson C. The JCSU defense then forced an SAU punt on three-and-out situation, taking over at their own 44-yard line. One play later, freshman running back Braxton Gambrell (Seneca, S.C.) broke through the middle of the Falcon defense and raced 56 yards for a score. Howard’s point-after made it 34-8 with 8:44 left.

SAU would only run 11 plays on their next three possessions, as JCSU claimed the 34-8 win, snapping a three-game slide.

Gambrell finished with a season-high 117 rushing yards while Desean Binyard (Winston-Salem, N.C.) had 41 yards on eight carries. Yuille ran for 39 yards and a score while D’Juantay Burrell (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) finished with 21 yards.

Yuille threw for 29 yards on a 4-of-9 outing. Yuille also threw one interception.

Leading the way for the JCSU receivers was Demarcus Berry (Vanceboro, N.C.) and Desmond Dozier (Longs, S.C.) as they each had 12 receiving yards on the after- noon.

Defensively, Lorenz Taylor (Bluffton, S.C.) led the way with six tackles and three pass breakups. Defensive end Brice Smith (At- lanta, Ga.) also had a productive afternoon, totaling three tackles with 2.5 being for loss. As a team, JCSU had nine tackles for loss on the day. #STAMPEDE 23 2016 RECAPS - BOX SCORES Quickie Statistics (Final) Livingstone vs Johnson C. Smith (Nov 05, 2016 at Charlotte, N.C.) Smith University) traveled to 's Old Delta Grove campus in Salisbury, North Carolina. Though there was snow on the ground and it was only two days after Christmas, the teams forged their way to a historic moment in sports while writers recorded the results. A writer in the 1930 yearbook of Livingstone College provided a glimpse of that December experience.

According to historian T. M. Martin, the men of Biddle spent two years studying the sport of football. In 1892, they challenged the men of Livingstone, whose team was formally organized in the fall of that year. It is doubtful that when Biddle University and Livingstone College teed it up on December 27, 1892, in what was described as little more than a cow pasture, either team had the slightest inkling of the legacy they were about to give birth. Games of monumental historical significance, coaches of legendary proportions and players of ex- traordinary brilliance ultimately emerged from what was to become known as Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

The teams played two 45-minute halves on Livingstone's front lawn. W. J. Trent scored Livingstone's only touch- down on a fumble recovery. By then, snow covered the field's markings and Biddle argued that the fumble was recovered out of bounds. The official ruled in Biddle's favor, allowing them to keep the 5-0 lead that they estab- lished early on, giving JCSU the historic 1st victory! And the rivalry continues...

#STAMPEDE 39 THE IRWIN BELK COMPLEX Named for benefactor and Charlotte businessman Irwin Belk, a member of the family behind Belk department stores, the Irwin Belk Complex opened in 2003.

The $8.9 million dollar, 4,500 seat facility features an Olympic-sized Mondo track, as well as a dance studio, weight rooms, multimedia classrooms and administrative offices. The complex was completed as a collaboration between JCSU and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Parks and Recreation Department.

It also serves as the location of the annual JCSU Commencement Ceremony.

The entrance to the stadium features a long pathway of bricks honoring the alumni and supporters who helped fund the complex. In addition the world’s largest bull statue stands on the north side of the stadium.

The Irwin Belk Complex hosted several major track events, including NCAA Division II Championships, CIAA championships and several other programs involving the community. Most recently, it was the site of the 2016 US Paralympic Trials and as home for the Charlotte Express of the Disc League.
