COLLABORATIONS This year we have worked with four theatre companies, two departments of Council and had fifteen volunteers from all over the country working with us. This diversity has given a new dimension to our work and new opportunities for members. STONECRABS - JYT 1 & 2 Forty young actors (aged 8-14) and Lewisham Youth Theatre tutors worked alongside international musicians, actors and writers from StoneCrabs Theatre ANNUAL REPORT 2008/09 Company to create a performance in May ‘09. Despite the challenges of the economic down turn we have been able to work with more young people by LIGHTWORK COLLABORATION SYT developing new partnerships and collaborations. These collaborations have brought invaluable additional July ‘08 saw the culmination of our MyLife multi media collaboration with Lightwork Theatre Company. Twelve experienced young LYT actors took on the support enabling our projects to remain ambitious, creative and diverse. challenge of creating and performing a piece of theatre about their lives. MyLife was performed at the Albany for two nights and used live camera work, recorded footage, music and dance created by the young people. A six minute short of the show can be seen at www.themylifeproject.com FINCHLEY YOUTH THEATRE Finchley Youth Theatre and our SYT group were both working on productions of Burn. The groups met during their rehearsals and were able to see each others performances. Both groups were very different and benefited enormously from sharing their ideas. We hope we can build on this exciting link in the future. BE LOUD BE PROUD BLACK HISTORY MONTH PROJECT Tutor Sheryl Malcolm, ASU (Arts Services Un- incorporated) and LYT collaborated on a project exploring the work of modern black British playwrights. Sheryl worked with one hundred and eighty 14 to 16 year olds in six Lewisham Secondary Schools. 30 young people were selected for an intensive day at The Broadway in October ‘08 leading to a performance for family and friends. FAMILY SEAL WORKSHOP PROJECT LYT delivered Family SEAL for Lewisham Behaviour Inclusion Team from September ‘08 to April ‘09. SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) is part of a national strategy delivered in schools. LYT Directors worked with two staff from John Bull School and delivered seven sessions with Year 3 children and their parents. The Directors also worked with families and staff in four other Lewisham Primary schools, using storytelling and drama games to begin their Family SEAL programme. SEE THEATRE YOUTH THEATRE ROAR! We would like to thank our outgoing Chair Andrew Siddall Our new business plan will bring ambitious, creative new developments for all his years of service to us and welcome Elizabeth between now and 2012.
