A large part of the North Area is identified as an Opportunity Area in the Mayor of London’s New London Plan, an important document that plans good growth across the capital. A central growth corridor follows the A21 road from New Cross signalling the potential for thousands of new and genuinely affordable homes over the next 20 years. Securing the Bakerloo Line extension is a key objective that could deliver a new transport hub at New Cross and unlock investment across the entire area. Regeneration of key sites including Convoys Wharf and the Timber Yard at Deptford Wharf is already underway with plans that will celebrate the area’s industrial past and provide residential neighbourhoods for the next generation. The future of Millwall Football Club in the borough will be secured with a modern stadium, forming part of a new leisure destination with a new Overground station. The Local Plan also sets out objectives for the New Cross Road (A2 corridor), the Lewisham North Creative Enterprise Zone, the Thames policy area and Deptford Creekside as well as walking and cycling routes - North Lewisham Links. A CREATIVE HUB The Albany, Goldsmiths and Trinity Laban have inspired many and helped strengthen the borough’s reputation for culture and the arts. The Lewisham North Creative Enterprize Zone (CEZ) has successfully nourished a cluster of cultural, creative and digital industries that now contribute to the borough’s distinctive character and played a pivotal role in securing Lewisham as London Borough of Culture 2022. The CEZ will continue to steer physical development, protecting business floorspace and providing a catalyst for new businesses and flexible workspace for artists, entrepreneurs and start-up enterprises.
