Filippov About the Journal The Russian Sociological Review is an academic peer-reviewed journal of theoretical, empirical and his- torical research in social sciences. TheRussian Sociological Review publishes four issues per year. Each issue includes original research papers, review articles and translations of contemporary and classical works in sociology, political theo- ry and social philosophy. Aims • To provide a forum for fundamental issues of social sciences. • To foster developments in social sciences by enriching theoretical language and vocabulary of social science and encourage a cross-disciplinary dialogue. • To provide educational materials for the university-based scholars in order to advance teaching in social sciences. Scope and Topics TheRussian Sociological Review invites scholars from all the social scientific disciplines to submit papers which address the fundamental issues of social sciences from various conceptual and methodological perspectives.     CHAPTER XIV “DER SCHWARZE TAG” ’rHE Australian infantry winding along their numerous approach tracks, constantly passing black silent masses of waiting tanks and crowded guns, were excited with their own realisation of the facts to which Monash’s message referred- that at last all five divisions of their national army were attack- ing together, that the Canadian force was attacking beside them, and that this time they were not to be stopped short of the opposing guns-and also of the elating circumstance that, so far, the enemy showed no awareness of the blow about to fall. The infantry brigades started their approach at different hours, mostly between midnight and 1.30 a.m.; the troops of the two divisions that were to launch the first stages of attack (at 4.20) mostly passed through-and reached their jumping-off tapes before-those of the two divisions for the second objective. These then followed and assembled behind them.’ At 3 a.m. when most units of the leading divisions had thus assembled and lain down, but about half of the two rearward ones were still moving up the tracks close behind them,2 the air became dimmed by a morning mist which quickly thickened until at 3.30 it was difficult to see more than twenty yards on either side. “It was getting too foggy to be pleasant,” said Col. Sadler of the 17th Battalion afterwards describing the assembly. I analyze different visual and narrative strategies developed by the directors of youth cinema during the Brezhnev period as mechanisms for circumventing ideological control over cultural production.

(A CASE STUDY OF ARMENIAN RESTAURANTS IN ST PETERSBURG) Evgenia Guliaeva Th e Russian Museum of Ethnography 4/1 Inzhenernaya Str., St Petersburg, Russia [email protected] A b s t r a c t: Using restaurants in St Petersburg serving Armenian cuisine as a case study, the article studies the question of what makes an ethnic restaurant ethnic, what may be learnt about ethnicity by studying a restaurant serving a national cuisine, and to what extent the image of Armenian cuisine presented in Armenian restaurants corresponds to what Armenian informants tell us. The conclusion is that the composition of the menu in these restaurants refl ects a view of Armenian cuisine from within the ethnic group itself. The representation of ethnicity is achieved primarily by discursive means. Neither owners, nor staff, nor customers from the relevant ethnic group, nor the style of the interior or music are necessary conditions for a restaurant to be accepted as ethnic. However, their presence is taken into account when the authenticity or inauthenticity of the restaurant is evaluated. Armenian informants, though, do not raise the question of authenticity: this category is irrelevant for them.     APPENDIX I LUNAR AND MARTIAN NOMENCLATURE LUNAR AND MARTIAN NOMENCLATURE A large number of names of craters and other features on the Moon and Mars, were accepted by the IAU General Assemblies X (Moscow, 1958), XI (Berkeley, 1961), XII (Hamburg, 1964), XIV (Brighton, 1970), and XV (Sydney, 1973). The names were suggested by the appropriate IAU Commissions (16 and 17). In particular the Lunar names accepted at the XIVth and XVth General Assemblies were recommended by the 'Working Group on Lunar Nomenclature' under the Chairmanship of Dr D. H. Menzel. The Martian names were suggested by the 'Working Group on Martian Nomenclature' under the Chairmanship of Dr G. de Vaucouleurs. At the XVth General Assembly a new 'Working Group on Planetary System Nomenclature' was formed (Chairman: Dr P. M. Millman) comprising various Task Groups, one for each particular subject. ABRA ENSEMBLE Hall I + Abra Ensemble (Performance Space Exhibition) ABRA Ensemble's works aspire to undermine existing power structures as they express themselves in the voice, language patterns and ways of speech. They seek rather communal, feminist strategies of composition, listening and creative-coexistence. Exposing the emergence of the music itself, ABRA Ensemble bridges the existing limits between contemporary virtuoso vocal art and the performative, transformative encounter with an audience. In the five years since its founding in 2013, the ensemble has performed at a diverse range of venues in Israel and Europe, released a debut album and gained considerable recognition both in the new-music and contemporary performance scene.
