Welcome! If you’re new to our parish, call the office and register with us. We’re happy you’re here! ¡Bienvenido! Si es nuevo en nuestra parroquia, llame a la oficina. ¡Estamos felices de que estés aquí! A W ORD F ROM F R . S WAMY Corpus Chris Sunday: The Solemnity of the Body and Blood of the Lord was instuted in 1264 by Pope Urban IV, so that Chrisan people could parcipate with special devoon in the Holy Mass and in the procession, and thus witness their faith in Jesus, who willed to remain present under the species of consecrated bread and wine. In the course of the centuries, this solemnity constuted the highest point of Eucharisc devoon because it united adoraon to that original event, which we cannot do without, which is the celebraon of them Mass. Today's readings focus on the obligaons and relaonships formed because of a blood bond. To share a common history is to live a common life. In the passage from Exodus, Moses returns from the mountain and reports God's demands for a covenant relaonship with the Chosen People. Moses obtains the people's commitment and then symbolizes that bond linking Israel with Yahweh. He writes the terms of the relaonship and erects an altar and twelve pillars. Only a er reading the terms does Moses sprinkle the people with blood. The end result is the creaon of a new family. Today's gospel links Jesus' death with Israel's great feast of liberaon, the Passover. At the first Passover, the blood on the doorpost prevented the death of the firstborn. The bread broken at the Last Supper symbolizes the disciples' sharing in Jesus' self-offering. Drinking from the cup of his blood creates a new and dynamic common bond. The Eucharist is a experience. Its very nature implies a bond with God and with the community. It is our source of strength as we journey through life. This Sunday, we have a special Mass offered for our High School graduates of 2021 at 10 am. I invite all of you to pray for them during this Mass. I would like to congratulate all our graduates for their hard work, especially in these trying and unprecedented mes. May you go forward applying what you have learned from your Catholic educaon and be transformed by the love of Christ, now and always. My thoughts and prayers are with each and every one of you! May God bless the class of 2021. B LESSINGS ON YOUR C ONFIRMATION ! EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP—RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS We Can Prepare the Upper Room We all know that person, don’t we? Hey, maybe we’ve even been that person. “I have a great relaonship with God, but I don’t go to church regularly. God and I are on good terms. I can talk to Him just fine on my own.” There isn’t anything false in these statements. It’s important to have an inmate, even conversaonal prayer relaonship with God. But the problem with this atude is that it implies that churches don’t maer. Community worship doesn’t maer. Today, we are reminded exactly why that is so untrue. Why we need our parishes, our priests, and each other. The Body and Blood of Christ—that’s what it’s all about. If it’s not about that, it’s not about anything. If we don’t have the Eucharist, we’re just like the ancient priests, making sacrifices that don’t have the power to redeem anybody. Where do we receive the Body and Blood of Christ? For most of us, it’s in our parishes. The altar of sacrifice is also the table we gather in front of, as a family, to become one with Christ in the truest and realest way possible, recreang the scene in the Upper Room over and over again every me Mass is celebrated. The disciples were commissioned by Christ to prepare the Upper Room for the Last Supper. How can we take up that work ourselves? How can we strengthen the bonds in our spiritual family? How can we serve our parish, always remembering that the table is not meant to be set only for two? -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS ©LPi N EWS AND E VENTS IN O UR F AITH C OMMUNITY Parochial School Round Table Discussion Summer Retreats The Steele County Historical Society announces a Parochial In a hard year, do you need me away, rest, and spiritual School Round Table Discussion from 6 to 7 pm, June 3 at renewal? A W ORD FROM G ARRICK A Word From Garrick We will soon begin our long stretch of Summer and Fall Ordinary Time and my aenon turns to the Old Testament readings and the Gospels of cycle B of the leconary. This year we will hear from numerous Old Testament books which were intenonally selected by Vacan II biblical scholars, to correspond to the Gospel of the day. These passages will underscore the qualies of faithfulness, obedience, humility, and commitment: all atudes of discipleship. The Psalmody of the day is also intended to link the Old Testament to the Gospel reading. This summer we will hear primarily from the Gospel according to Saint Mark and the prominent theme on the demand of discipleship laid out each week for the church. The second readings are a semi-connuous reading from leers to the Corinthians, the Galaans, the Philippians, the Hebrew and to the Ephesians. It is my hope that the music selected will reflect our summer leconary themes of discipleship as well an offering of music that is well-known and loved. My experience with this recent year’s liturgical celebraons is indeed memorable. From our Advent and Christmas Masses; Lenten Kyrie and Palm Sunday processions; to our Staons of the Cross, Holy Week, a New Fire at Easter Vigil and now Pentecost with Bishop Quinn at Confirmaon. I am so amazed at how it all came together and so efficiently. This is because your ministries in the work of the Lord’s Day celebraon makes it all come together. Our parish music ministry has also worked very hard this pandemic year, with excellent singing and playing at all our weekend masses. I am grateful for their parcipaon and great paence with a long list of new hymns, songs and Psalm sengs. We have indeed sung a new song to the Lord this year. I am grateful for the enthusiasm expressed in the fine singing I hear under a masked assembly. I am confident that we will be able to connue our song as we regain confidence to come together again. As people of God, we will sing ourselves as a new church, into a sanctuary beaufully renewed with a beauful new organ in the balcony. We will sing ourselves into yet another season of God’s good grace and favor at Sacred Heart. Jesus, gentle and humble of heart. Touch our hearts and make them like your own. -from the Litany of the Sacred Heart ST.
