Michael Wargo Patrick Welch It sure feels good when I’m out in the community introducing myself and receive a “We love Charter Directors WNIT” in response. But lately, a follow-up response is often, “What is going to happen with your Arthur J. Decio Jerry Hammes funding?” Honestly, we don’t know. While the President has proposed the elimination of WNIT’s Ernestine M. Raclin federal funding, which is 20% of our budget, the federal budget is really set by Congress. Vietnam_fullpage_WNIT.indd 1 4/19/17 1:12 PM Supporter Spotlight Don & Joan Lyons

This month’s Supporter Spotlight features Don and Joan Lyons of Dowagiac. Both have been active in public affairs for all of their careers, including a total of 14 years between them on the Dowagiac Board of Education. Don is in his 20th year as mayor of Dowagiac, and has served his hometown in either an elected or appointed capacity continuously for more than 40 years. They are the founders and owners of Lyons Industries, Inc., which will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2020, as well as the Heddon Museum, which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year. They are truly citizens of Michiana: they are significant supporters not only of WNIT, but also the Potawatomi Zoo, the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, the Elkhart Civic Theater, the Dowagiac Beckwith Theatre, Dowagiac Area History Museum, and others. WNIT is their “go-to” television station. According to the Lyons, “We probably spend as much time watching WNIT as all other channels combined! Thanks, WNIT!”
