Ganey, Ph.D. Susan Ohmer, Ph.D. President and Dear Supporters of Public Television: General Manager Greg Giczi I’m pumped up! I was able to attend the PBS annual meeting in May. It’s an opportunity for Treasurer general managers from public television stations from all over the country to share ideas and learn Thomas E. Slager about PBS’s upcoming plans. Unlike all the other television and cable networks, PBS is not a Secretary “network” but rather a programming cooperative owned by its member stations. Just like WNIT Cari Shein belongs to you, all of PBS belongs to you too! Directors David L. Bankoff, MD Paula Kerger, president of PBS, recently celebrated a work anniversary, she is now the longest Thomas G. Coley, Ph.D. Marvin Curtis serving president in PBS’s history. • Ethnic Community, Party Politics, and the Cold War: the Political Ascendancy of Miami Cubans, 1980–2000
The Japanese Journal of American Studies, No. 23 (2012) Ethnic Community, Party Politics, and the Cold War: The Political Ascendancy of Miami Cubans, 1980–2000 Hideaki KAMI* INTRODUCTION Analysis of the implications of the rapidly growing Latino/Hispanic electorate for future U.S. political life is a relatively new project for his- torians and political scientists.1 Indeed, the literature on Latino politics has long considered their political underrepresentation as the central issue for research. Many scholars in the field have sought to explain how the burden of historical discrimination and antagonistic attitudes toward immigrants has discouraged these minorities from taking part in U.S. politics. Their studies have also explored how to overcome low voter turnout among Latinos and detect unfavorable institutional obstacles for voicing their opinions in government.2 However, partly due to previous academic efforts, the 1990s and 2000s have witnessed U.S. voters of Hispanic origin solidifying their role as a key constituency in U.S. pol- itics. An increasing number of politicians of Hispanic origin now hold elective offices at local, state, and national levels. Both the Republican and Democratic Parties have made intensive outreach efforts to seize the hearts and minds of these new voters, particularly by broadcasting spe- cific messages in Spanish media such as Univision.3 Although low *Graduate student, University of Tokyo and Ohio State University 185 186 HIDEAKI KAMI turnout among Latino voters and strong anti-immigrant sentiments among many non-Latino voters persist, the growing importance of the Latino electorate during the presidential elections has attracted increas- ing attention from inside and outside academic circles.4 Hence, in 2004, political scientist Rodolfo O.

  • Huffpost Morgxn
August 13, 2019 For Indie Pop Star Morgxn, Only A Life Without Labels Is Worth Singing About The singer-songwriter, who identifies as queer, defies easy categorization on his 2018 album, “Vital,” and genre-bending new music. Deeply personal lyrics, a distinctive falsetto and a sensual stage presence have helped make morgxn, whose real name is Morgan Karr, a rising star on the indie pop circuit. The mainstream music industry seems to have caught on, too, by slowly taking notice of the singer-songwriter’s talents. His chosen path, however, has been anything but linear. In fact, he experienced his first burst of success via a different artistic medium: theater. He relocated from Nashville to New York in 2008 to join the ensemble of Broadway’s “Spring Awakening.” The hit musical helped launch the careers of Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele and other actors, but it turned out to be a much different type of turning point for morgxn. “It was a really tough experience, because I remember standing onstage and feeling empty,” he said. “I didn’t know what to do with that. I just wanted to find my own voice and my own way of existing.” In an effort to “shake the universe,” morgxn relocated from New York to Los Angeles in 2011 and began writing. “I don’t think I trust people who haven’t, at some point in their life, sold everything they’ve owned and moved somewhere,” he said, “because I think sometimes you have to give the universe a big gesture that you’re ready for something new.

Thomas E. Slager I’ve had enough snow and cold this winter. I’m ready for some warmer weather! We received all sorts of indications that viewership was up. Downton Abbey Thomas G. Coley, Ph.D. Season 4 set viewership records on its premiere night. Received 9 December, 2008; Accepted 1 September, 2009 In August 2008 the 47-year-old Barack Hussein Obama was elected by the U.S. Democratic National Convention as its nominee for President of the United States. This was the first time an African- American had ever been nominated to this office. It was a momentous and revolutionary event. The bright African-American orphan son of a bright but tragic Kenyan father, who had died in a tragic car accident in 1982 in Kenya, after losing his career and his legs and struggling with alcoholism, and of a bright white mother who had died of cancer in 1995, was nominated for the highest office in the world’s mightiest country. Soon Obama was leading in most public-opinion polls as the candidate most likely to become President, with a 10-point lead over John McCain, the Republican candidate. On November 4 he was elected President of the United States, the first African-American president in U.S. history. There had been nothing quite like this in U.S. history. On January 20, 2009 Barack Obama became the 44th president of the United States. Key words: Barrack Obama, CSV qualities, psychoanalytic knowledge, culture. INTRODUCTION There are numerous schools in psychology, psychiatry by the vast majority of cultures and throughout history, and psychoanalysis.
