Morrison Secretary Happy Summer Everyone! Dr. Susan Ohmer I think Michiana is a very special place to be in the summer. We seem to have a little of everything. I Directors love going to Lake Michigan beaches and enjoy the food and music at our summer festivals. Each of Thomas G. Coley, Ph.D. our Michiana communities has its own special personality and charm. Kathryn Demarais Irene E. Eskridge Here at WNIT, your PBS station, we’ve been busy preparing for “Michiana’s Rising Star.” That’s our William A. Gitlin regional talent show which has now completed its audition phase. We started out with over 150 Tracy D. Graham hopeful performers and whittled that list down to about 125. We wanted to have 25 contestants Albert L. Gutierrez at each of our regional judging sites. In Benton Harbor, South Bend, Elkhart, Culver and Warsaw, James W. Hillman our contenders gave it their best before a panel of four judges and our WNIT television cameras. Najeeb A. Khan Five finalists were announced from each location. We are now editing all this footage to produce a Glenn E. Killoren series of “Michiana’s Rising Star” television specials. Please look for the schedule inside your WNIT Paul A. Marsh Planner. Watch and vote – yes, vote. We will give you an opportunity to text-vote for your favorite Ryan Matthys performer while you make a contribution to WNIT. Christine M. Maziar I enjoyed attending the regional competitions. In addition to meeting a lot of nice people and Mary Louise Miller faithful PBS viewers, I’ve been amazed at the quality of the talent! I guess that shouldn’t surprise Pat Moody me. I’m just glad my job is general manager of WNIT rather than a “Michiana’s Rising Star” judge. Jill Richardson It would be too difficult a task to only pick five finalists from each location. Please watch to see if Maritza Robles you agree. I think “Michiana’s Rising Star” has a great future as an annual event! Cari Shein Thomas E. Slager And speaking of local specials, “Our Town Elkhart,” is another program to check in your Planner. James M. Summers This program is special because of the way we produce the “Our Town” series. We recruit local Michael J. Wargo videographers to “film” the segments. Each town is shown through the video eyes of its people. It’s Patrick Welch great storytelling and another way of putting the public in Public TV. Charter Directors Remember the slogan, “WNIT belongs to me!” We’re thinking of reviving it. I personally think it is Mr. Arthur J. Decio right on target. I’d like your thoughts about this. Inside the Planner you will see another request for Mr. Jerry Hammes input. We are thinking of shifting the “PBS NewsHour” to 6pm (from 7pm). What do you think? Mrs. Ernestine M. Raclin Mrs. Jane Warner All the wonderful productions we create would never happen without your support. Thank you, Mr. Dar Wiekamp* thank you, thank you. Keep watching WNIT and enjoy these days of summertime!
