Governor Habib practiced law at Perkins Coie, and served as Distinguished Seattle Walk Report Lawmaker in Residence at Seattle U Law School. He is a Truman Scholar, a Soros February 7 Fellow, a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a Rodel Fellow at the Aspen Steven Heim, Institute, and was named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. This will be a gathering at Tai Tung Restaurant, a landmark restaurant in the ID Club Photos Club Facebook Page with 75 years of history and located at 655 S. This is the only weekly English newspaper serving Washington’s Asian community. And [email protected] PLEASE bring a guest. 2 University Rotarians Host FIUTS Students On the evening of December 23 a dozen UW students gathered via FIUTS at Marilee Fuller’s home near Lake Union with URotary hosts (Marilee and Susan Sola) to watch the parade of boats with lights and Christmas music, and enjoy some very tasty eggnog and other yearend treats. India, Thailand, Finland, Taiwan and Kazakhstan were represented. Hearts and Wine 2020 (Supporting Harvest Against Hunger) Date: February 28, 2020 Time: 6:00-9:00 pm Place: The Foundry by Herban Feast Includes full buffet dinner, wine and spirit tasting, games, a live auction, and a Super Silent Auction. Just check “Recurring donation.” You can also give your check to either Son Michael Pham or Ezra Teshome. 3 Board Approves New Member Applications Sheila Hosner has been proposed for club membership by Omara Ben Abe. Sheila retired after a -26 year career at the WA State Department of Ecology where she held various positions including Environmental Education and Outreach, Spill Response, Regulatory Lead, Communications, and, finally, Legislative Liaison to the State Legislature. After retirement, she spent two and half years volunteering at a hospital in Uganda, where she managed a program that provided medical care to people who could not afford it. Under her leadership the program expanded ten-fold, providing lifesaving and life changing care to almost 775 adults and children. Currently, Sheila is working with a community in eastern Uganda that is working to build a critically needed health clinic. The clinic will be located in the Bududa District and serve five sub-counties with a population of approximately 80,000 people. Her role in this effort is serving as Development Officer of the Bukobero Community Health Centre. Sheila is a graduate of the University of Washington with a BA in Comparative Literature and an MA in Library Science; and also a graduate of the Charite Medical School of Berlin, Germany, with an MS in International Health. Her hobbies include travel, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, swimming, reading, hiking, cooking, and attending theater. Sheila lives in Southeast Seattle, her phone number is 206-910-9712, and her email is [email protected]. Joseph (Joe) Whitford has been proposed for club membership by Dave Spicer. Joe is a lawyer by profession and a Partner in the firm of Davis Wright Tremaine LLP. He has been a corporate attorney since 1975, focusing his practice on representing high growth emerging companies in the technology sector. He is currently a trustee and past president of the board of trustees of Holy Names Academy. He is also the co-founder and co-chairman of Friends of Seattle Mombasa Schools, a Seattle- based non-profit. His special interests include international topics and education. He is a Seattle Sounders fan and enjoys travel in foreign countries. Joe has a BA in Economics from Union College in Schenectady, New York, and a JD from Syracuse University College of Law, also in New York. He and his wife, Donna, have three adult daughters. They live in the Madison Park neighborhood of Seattle. His phone number is 206-399-4107 and his email is [email protected]. Kathy Warnaca has been proposed for club membership by Teri Cicero. Kathy is a retired sales representative for Ivystone (national rep group for gifts, furniture and home décor). Her territory as a sales rep was Alaska, where she traveled many times with her husband, Doug, who sold lumber there for Boise Cascade. Kathy grew up in Oregon, where her father was a Methodist Minister for 44 years. She is a graduate of Willamette University in Salem. Her current community activities have been through her church, Sand Point Community United Methodist, where she serves as chair of Staff Parish Relations. She also helps prepare food for Tent City 3 monthly and carries out other service activities through the church. She and her husband also support Treehouse for foster kids. Kathy’s hobbies and interests include music (singing in the church choir), spending time with her grandchildren, reading and urban walks. Kathy and Doug live in northeast Seattle.
