Flagey. On trouvait là non seulement une chapelle dédiée à la Sainte-Croix, un cimetière, un hospice, mais aussi un moulin à eau, une série d’auberges et de brasseries. Le hameau de Boondael – où quelques bâtiments ruraux s’observent encore à proximité de la chapelle Saint-Adrien – s’est sans doute constitué à la même époque. Dès la fin du XIVe siècle, un faubourg se développa devant la porte de Namur ; l’habitat ne cessa ensuite de se développer le long de la chaussée d’Ixelles, reliant les abords de l’enceinte urbaine au village. 1 Het dorp Elsene ontstond voor de 13e eeuw rond het huidige E. Vanaf het einde van de 14e eeuw zal er zich geleidelijk aan een buitenwijk ontwikkelen vlak voor de Naamsepoort. L’église abbatiale, le cloître et bien d’autres bâtiments permettent de se rendre compte de l’orga nisation d’un grand monastère périurbain à la fin de l’Ancien Régime. Fondée au début du XIIIe siècle et supprimée en 1796, l’abbaye est désormais occupée par une école d’art, un institut cartographique et la paroisse Notre-Dame. Des fouilles et des sondages archéologiques – notamment au niveau de l’ancien réfectoire et des jardins –, de même qu’une série d’analyses dendrochronologiques des charpentes, ont permis d’affiner certaines datations. 1 De oude cisterciënzerabdij van Ter Kameren is de best bewaarde abdij in het Brussels Gewest. Dankzij de vele bewaarde gebouwen, zoals de abdijkerk, het klooster en de vele bijgebouwen, kunnen we ons een beeld vormen van de organisatie van een grote abdij buiten de stad, op het einde van het Ancien Régime. Ze werd gesticht in het begin van de 13e eeuw, en opgeheven in 1796. Vandaag is er een kunstschool gevestigd, een geo- grafisch instituut, alsook de Onze-Lieve-Vrouwparochie. 2 Archeologisch onder zoek, ter hoogte van de oude eetzaal en de tuinen, en dendrochronologisch onderzoek van de dakgebinten, stelden onderzoekers in staat om de datering scherp te stellen.

We analysed the profiles of groups with different preferences in relation to their use of the park, their socio- demographic situation, the places where they live and work, their mobility practices and access to green spaces. We ran an online survey between Nov. 27 and Dec. 7, 2020, for which we received 7252 valid responses, which we divided into three groups based on respondents’ preferences for the park’s setup: Allow Traffic, Middle Ground and Ban Traffic (min. group size 1800). While our sample is not representative of the population at large, it is adequate to study the profiles of people displaying different preferences for the park. Looking at different motivations for preferring one or the other setup for the park, and at the use of the park before and during traffic restrictions, suggests an area of tension between traffic fluidity and the recreational use of the park.

    THINGS TO DO WITH CHILDREN IN BELGIUM There is certainly no shortage of fun things to do with children in Belgium - the only real problem will be convincing them to leave when the time comes! This is a list of favorite places of ISB families. If you visit somewhere that you think others would enjoy, please send details to [email protected] and we will add it. Similarly if you visit somewhere on this list and find that the prices have increased (rarely would they have decreased!) then please let us know so that we can make the update. INTERNET RESOURCES • www.petitmoutard.be: This website is in French and Flemish, but still very useful. On the home page you can plug in the age(s) of your children, a loca- tion in Belgium (you can search in France and the Netherlands as well), and the type of activity you want to find (indoor/outdoor, and there is a list of possibilities – playground, pool, nature, museum, etc). The computer will then generate a list of possibilities that meet your criteria. If the place has its own website, there will be a link to that (which may be in English). • www.agenda.be : This is a listing by date of cultural activities for kids – concerts, plays, puppet shows, etc. The site is only in French and Flemish. As for the shows -- don’t be put off just because of the French or Flemish, kids generally enjoy the programs even if they don’t understand the language. • www.nocturnes.be: From September to December, every Thursday evening 3 or 4 selected museums in Brussels stay open late, usually until 21:00.
