CHRISTIE’S ANNOUNCES SUMMER 2021 RESIDENCIES IN AND ASPEN

INAUGURAL EXHIBITIONS TO OPEN IN JUNE AND JULY, FEATURING MODERN AND CONTEMPORARY ART AND LUXURY ITEMS, WITH SPECIAL EVENTS AND PREVIEWS

NEW YORK – This summer, Christie’s Americas is expanding its geographic presence to include the art-centric enclaves of The Hamptons and Aspen. Beginning in June and July respectively, Christie’s will launch pop-up residencies in each location, with a full roster of public exhibitions, client events, and educational programming hosted from dedicated retail gallery spaces. Both locations will offer property for immediate sale, ranging from 20th and 21st Century Art to luxury goods such as jewels, watches and handbags.

The summer residency program resumes Christie’s long-running strategy of creating pop-up engagement opportunities in key locations around the U.S. and builds on the success of similar client-led programming initiatives in the Hamptons, Palm Beach and Chicago.

Christie’s Southampton Christie’s launches its long-term residency in the Hamptons this June with an opening exhibition at its new outpost at 1 Pond Lane, Southampton. Located in a newly-refurbished 5,600 square foot glass-front building, Christie’s Southampton will serve as a vibrant hub of activity for the region, with regular programming of events, exhibitions, receptions and brand collaborations for the local community. Christie’s residency in the building, which will run through 2022, follows on the success of last summer’s pop-up exhibition in the Hamptons, which drew hundreds of clients to a masterworks exhibitions of auction highlights over the extended 4th of July holiday. Christie’s Southampton is located in the heart of Southampton Village, close to the Southampton Arts Center.

June 20 - July 11 | Out East For its inaugural curated exhibition in Southampton, Christie’s specialists drew inspiration from the area’s best-known artists, whose work is synonymous with the region’s rich landscape and inviting proximity to the sea. Works by Willem de Kooning, Helen Frankenthaler, and Lee Krasner anchor the exhibition, complemented by Fairfield Porter, Roy Lichtenstein, and Andy Warhol, among others. Together, the works on view in Out East capture the magic of this special place, and reveal how the beguiling beauty of spurred a rich and varied body of work.

All exhibitions at Christie’s Southampton will be open to the public by appointment. Future summer and fall exhibitions will be announced in the coming weeks.

Christie’s Aspen Christie’s pop-up program “Summer in Aspen” continues the company’s long-standing tradition of summer programming, with the addition this season of a dedicated gallery space in downtown Aspen. Christie’s Gallery will temporarily occupy Christie’s International Real Estate Aspen, located at 520 E Durant Ave., and will be open from 11am - 5pm, Monday to Saturday, from July 3 through August 8.

Throughout the month, Christie’s has organized a series of rotating thematic exhibitions leading with 20/21st century art, specially curated private sales property, luxury objects available for immediate sale, and a preview of Fall 2021 auction highlights showcasing a rich array of fine art and objects. Taking place alongside exhibitions are a series of client events and educational programming focused on topical issues in the art world.

July 3-15 | Basquiat to Banksy: Off the Wall Aspen Following the success of Basquiat to Banksy: Off the Wall London, Christie’s is pleased to present a second iteration of the selling exhibition in Aspen. Bringing together the cult figures of the 80s with the counter-cultural artists of today we will celebrate the negotiation between street and studio over nearly half a century on the walls of Christie’s Aspen. From the vigorous marks of Basquiat to the iconic motifs of Banksy, this exhibition seeks to recreate the buzzing energy of the streets.

July 17-28 | Out West Paying homage to Aspen and the surrounding region, Out West will feature artworks by artists who worked in, were inspired by, and depicted the American West. From Ed Ruscha mountain paintings to Richard Prince’s cowboys, Out West will bring together a group of artists connected by their love of western imagery and landscape. July 30 – Aug 8 | Fall Auction Highlights The series of exhibitions will close with a first-look at highlights included Christie’s 20/21 Century Art marquee sales. Spanning the most iconic names of 20th and 21st century art, the preview exhibition will include works from renowned private collections showcased for the first time at Christie’s Aspen.
