Every year we strive to engage the community with new and exciting cultural offerings. This year we invite you to join us on FAU Arts Day, when the public will have a chance to come tour our facilities, watch artists at work, and become part of the creative process. Also this year, we have developed events which explore themes related to FAU’s new Peace, Justice and Human Rights Initiative. These events are indicated throughout the brochure by a *PJHR. Performing works from the golden age of concert bands and some new favorites, too! Conducted by Kyle Prescott, the FWS, an Ensemble-in-Residence at FAU, brings together top-ranked players from major symphonies, opera orchestras, conservatories, and music schools in the region for a world-class performance! Bach’s Fantasia in G major for organ, and Before Thy Throne I Now Appear, a set of variations on the last music Bach ever composed, by Dan Bukvich. The majesty of Bach is followed by steamy and rollicking American Blues, including Dan Freund’s Jug Blues and Fat Pickin’, and Frank Ticheli’s Blue Shades. Tickets $15 at www.fauevents.com or 800-564-9539 QUINTETO ESCUELA DE TANGO “LEOPOLDO FEDERICO” Fri, Oct 17, 7 pm, University Theatre Tango specialists from Colombia perform a variety of Latin American folk music. The ensemble, on the final leg of their first U.S. tour, will be recording for Hoot/Wisdom Recordings an album of new arrangements of Argentine tango and popular Colombian folk songs. Program will include works by Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Copland, Barber, Elgar, Piazzolla and Grieg. Sun, Dec 14, 5 pm, Mizner Park Amphitheater Enjoy the tradition of holiday music performed by tubas and euphoniums, started by Indiana University Professor Harvey G. Phillips. FAU professor Sean Murray brings this tradition to the Boca Raton community for its fourth annual presentation.
