It highlights key developments over time in all such facets, whilst serving as a placeholder for the timelessness of its unique culture and ethos. It permits viewing a District beyond the prismatic image of a geographical or administrative unit, since the Gazetteer holistically captures its socio-cultural diversity, traditions, and practices, the creative contributions and industriousness of its people and luminaries, and builds on the economic, commercial and social interplay with the rest of the State and the country at large. The document which is a centrepiece of the District, is developed and brought out by the State administration with the cooperation and contributions of all concerned. Its purpose is to generate awareness, public consciousness, spirit of cooperation, pride in contribution to the development of a District, and to serve multifarious interests and address concerns of the people of a District and others in any way concerned. Historically, the ―Imperial Gazetteers‖ were prepared by Colonial administrators for the six Districts of the then Orissa, namely, Angul, Balasore, Cuttack, Koraput, Puri, and Sambalpur. After Independence, the Scheme for compilation of District Gazetteers devolved from the Central Sector to the State Sector in 1957. -

1 REL 3337 Religions in Modern India Vasudha Narayanan, Distinguished Professor, Religion [email protected] (Please use email for all communications) Office hours: Wednesdays 2:00-3:00 pm and by appointment Credits: 3 credit hours Course Term: Fall 2018 Class Meeting Time: M Period 9 (4:05 PM - 4:55 PM) AND 0134 W Period 8 - 9 (3:00 PM - 4:55 PM) In this course, you will learn about the religious and cultural diversity in the sub-continent, and understand the history of religion starting with the colonial period. We will study the major religious thinkers, many of whom had an impact on the political history of India. We will study the rites-of-passage, connections between food and religion, places of worship, festivals, gurus, as well as the close connections between religion and politics in many of these traditions. The religious traditions we will examine and intellectually engage with are primarily Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, as well as Christianity and Islam in India. We will strike a balance between a historical approach and a thematic one whereby sacraments, rituals, and other issues and activities that are religiously important for a Hindu family can be explained. This will include discussion of issues that may not be found in traditional texts, and I will supplement the readings with short journal and magazine articles, videos, and slides. The larger questions indirectly addressed in the course will include the following: Are the Indian concepts of "Hinduism" and western concepts of "religion" congruent? How ha colonial scholarship and assumptions shaped our understanding of South Asian Hindus and the "minority traditions" as distinct religious and social groups, blurring regional differences? How are gender issues made manifest in rituals? How does religious identity influence political and social behavior? How do Hindus in South Asia differentiate among themselves? Results indicated significant variations among tested varieties in levels of fruit infestation and maggot density Debu Mukherjee inside the fruit. On Some Media And Application Sinthetic Plant Growth Regulator Ella Yusnita, Yanti Puspitasari, Dwi Susanto Abstract: This research aims to determine the effect of giving IBA and NAA and plant media combination to the growth of shoot cutting of Agarwood. This research was done by 2 treatments which are IBA and NAA (RO = 0 ppm, R1 = 50 ppm, R2 = 100 ppm, R3 = 150 ppm and R4 = 200 ppm) and plant media (M0 = soil, M1 = soil + rice husk, M2 = soil + compost) respectively. The data was analyzed with the variant analysis (ANOVA), and continued by Duncan test (P=0.05). The results showed the awarding IBA and NAA with a concentration of 50, 100, 150 and 200 ppm was able to increase the average percentage live shoot cuttings almost reach 100%, media increasing the percentage of living shoot cuttings. Their cool headed and amiable temperament, their power of adaptabili ty and adjustability to any kind of circumstances~ envi ronment, whether regional or local, their exceptional sense of conciliation and assimilation - all these traits of their character helped them considerably in doing business in distant and unknown places, far away from their native land. However, human factors are conditioned, to some extent,by compulsions. The Marwaris are aware. that good public relations are a requisite for business transactions and that a rapport with the general public can best be estab lished by making cordial gesture. Their quick adoption of the local language helps them immensely in establishing this rapport. Initially, they used to migrate to a place in search of subsistence alone, keeping their womenfolk at home. So there had always been an identity crisis which they suffered from at the place of migration and to over- 344 come this crisis they thought it wise to mingle with the local people by participating in local festivals and attending social gatherings o.f other communi ties who lived there. Thereby they tried to join the mainstream of the society.
