Through this Report, we reaffirm the Authority’s commitment to transparency and authentic communication. Since 1994, the year the Authority implemented its nondiscrimination programs, we have paid more than $338 million to certified M/W/DBEs and VOBs. This success would not be possible without the support of our committed partners in the Engineering Division, Purchasing and Contract Administration Departments. Focused outreach continues to contribute to the success of our programs. In 2017, some of our efforts to share information and otherwise connect with members of the community included: x Publishing News Alert, a quarterly newsletter, which is disseminated to more than 1,000 individuals; x Sending numerous e-alerts to more than 1,000 subscribers to notify them about upcoming contract and purchasing opportunities, all of which are also posted on the Authority’s website at www.drpa.org; x Representing DRPA/PATCO at various business expos and other events in the region with the goal of educating the public about contract opportunities and how to do business with DRPA and PATCO; and x Serving on a number of educational panels, including, but not limited to, ‘The State of Black New Jersey 2017 Conference’, a ‘MinorityEnterprise Development (MED) Week’ event sponsored by City Councilwoman at-Large Blondell Reynolds Brown, and ‘Ready. Set. Mentor Women’s Leadership Mentor Event’ a women’s leadership initiative sponsored by United Way. In addition, in 2017, for the first time, OBD&EO partnered with the Authority’s Legal Division to host the 1st Diversity Outreach Event for Legal Services. The event was well attended, and attendees received copies of the publicly advertised RFP and were invited to submit proposals for consideration. We thank the Board of Commissioners, led by Chairman Ryan N. Boyer and Vice Chairman Jeffrey L. Nash, and Chief Executive Officer John T. Hanson for their steadfast commitment to fairness and equity, diversity and inclusion, the principles of equal contracting and employment opportunities for all. For the last several years, we have committed to cost-savings measures that have enabled us to operate without changes to our toll or fare structures. These investments will greatly contribute to the building of the Camden County Link Trail which will benefit the City of Camden and the surrounding area in multiple ways. The Camden County Link Trail is an ambitious 34-mile trail project that will connect the urban core and scenic waterfront of the City of Camden to 16 of the county’s suburban communities, while linking to countless businesses, schools, neighborhoods, parks, and open spaces. When fully constructed, it will allow hundreds of thousands of county residents to walk, hike, or bike to recreational areas, commute to work or school, and stimulate local economies at multiple downtown business districts. It is my understanding that with this funding residents and commuters will be able to safely navigate the beautiful Delaware River and Cooper River waterfront, while avoiding high traffic areas such as Routes 30, 130, and 676.

Since its opening in early 1957; the WWB has become the ”workhorse” of the four long-span bridges owned and operated by the Delaware River Port Authority (DRPA), providing primary access to Center City Philadelphia, the Delaware River ports, and the stadium complex in South Philadelphia. The suspended structure features a 2,000 ft main span, two 770 ft back spans and carries seven lanes of traffic. A deck study commissioned by the DRPA in 2005 determined that due to heavy use and deterioration, the original concrete-filled grid deck needed to be replaced. In 2007, AECOM – with Weidlinger Associates (WAI) as a primary sub-consultant – was retained to perform preliminary and final design for the replacement of the WWB’s 3500 ft of suspended span deck.
