7.9 Biological Water Quality Classifi cation (2000) The water courses in the mostly densely populated landscapes of Germany are subject to more or less intensive human use. This includes water abstraction for industries, small businesses, agriculture and public water supply and also the discharge of treated waste water. Waste water discharge is generally a point source of pollution and may have different impacts according to the discharge volume in relation to the river‘s runoff and the effectiveness of sewage treat- ment. Other impacts are from diffuse sources such as drainage from agricultural land or from livestock. The biological water quality chart of the LAWA (“saprobe chart”) describes the pollution affect- ing the oxygen balance of the water courses. It is essentially caused by carbon and nitrogen oxidation of easily bio-degradable sewage constituents. Methodology The basis of the method is the biological water analysis based on the saprobe system (DIN 38 410). The method of the LAWA for the indication and assessment of biological water quality is only applicable in flowing water courses, streams and rivers of Central Europe, and not in still waters. It is easily applicable, on the basis of uniform guidelines, for most water courses. There may be problems in the assessment of water courses which do not continuously flow, in very slow-flowing and barrier-regulated waters, in acidified waters or waters devastated by toxic substances, and in canals without adequate bank structure. Definitive Fassung Arbeitsgruppe 5 Versorgung / Entsorgung / Sicherheit Schlussbericht Wasser Zusammenfassung In Bezug auf die Wasserwerke, steht einem Zusammenschluss der 10 Rheintal+ Gemeinden nichts im Wege. Die Wasserwerke der Gemeinden Rietheim, Bad Zurzach, Rekingen, Mellikon und Rümikon sind jetzt schon mit einer Trinkwasserleitung miteinander verbunden. Diese Trinkwasserverbindung zieht sich weiter über Koblenz bis nach Döttingen und Tegerfelden. Die Gemeinde Kaiserstuhl kann im Notfall Wasser von Fisibach "Reservoir Sanzenberg" beziehen. Die beiden Gemeinden sind aber, wie auch Baldingen, Böbikon und Wislikofen mit keiner anderen Rheintal+ Gemeinde verbunden. Erwähnenswert ist, dass die beiden Gemeinden Baldingen und Böbikon zurzeit prüfen eine Trinkwasserverbindungsleitung zwischen den beiden Dörfern zu erstellen, damit in Zukunft Wasser von einem Dorf ins andere gepumpt werden kann. Alle 10 Rheintal+ Gemeinden stellen eine unselbständige, öffentliche und selbst- tragende Wasserversorgung, welche unter der Aufsicht des Gemeinderates liegt. (Eigenwirtschaftsbetrieb) Einige Gemeinden beziehen Grundwasser, welches direkt mittels Pumpen in die Netze und Reservoire gefördert wird. Andere Gemeinden beziehen Quellwasser, welches direkt ins Reservoir fliesst, oder mittels Pumpen in die Netze und Reservoire befördert wird. In den meisten Gemeinden kann das Trinkwasser unbehandelt an die Abonnenten abgegeben werden. In den Gemeinden Baldingen und Mellikon wird das Trinkwasser mittels UV-Strahlen behandelt, bevor es in das Wasserversorgungsnetz fliesst. In 9 von den 10 Gemeinden liegt die Nitratbelastung des Trinkwassers im Bereich von 15mg/l und ist damit deutlich unter dem Schweizerischen Grenzwert von maximal 50mg/l. In Baldingen liegt die Nitratbelastung des Trinkwassers bei knapp 25mg/l. Dies ist nicht besorgniserregend, muss aber weiterverfolgt werden. Climatic change alters the frequency and intensity of natural hazards. In order to assess potential future changes in flood seasonality in the Rhine River Basin, we analyse changes in streamflow, snowmelt, precipitation, and evapotranspiration at 1.5, 2.0 and 3.0 ◦C global warming levels. The mesoscale Hydrological Model (mHM) forced with an ensemble of climate projection scenarios (five general circulation models under three representative concentration pathways) is used to simulate the 5 present and future climate conditions of both, pluvial and nival hydrological regimes. Our results indicate that the interplay between changes in snowmelt- and rainfall-driven runoff is crucial to understand changes in streamflow maxima in the Rhine River. Climate projections suggest that future changes in flood characteristics in the entire Rhine River are controlled by both, more intense precipitation events and diminishing snow packs. The nature of this interplay defines the type of change in runoff peaks. On the sub-basin level (the Moselle River), more intense rainfall 10 during winter is mostly counterbalanced by reduced snowmelt contribution to the streamflow. -
