Previously, this genus belonged to the Euphorbiaceae family but based on molecular studies it was separated into separate Phyllanthaceae families. Botanical explorations carried out on the islands of Bangka and Belitung indicated that Phyllanthus tenellus had not been recorded yet in Phyllanthus in Sumatra. Phyllanthus tenellus is a new alien plant record for the flora of Sumatra and increases the number of Phyllanthus species in Sumatra to 14 species. This species is thought to have been introduced accidentally and has naturalized in urban areas. A brief description, the factors causing the presence of this species in Sumatra, and their potential uses are described. Keywords: Naturalized, New record, Phyllanthaceae, Phyllanthus tenellus, Sumatera PENDAHULUAN Marga Phyllanthus L. merupakan marga Informasi mengenai marga Phyllanthus di terbesar dalam suku Phyllanthaceae, Pulau Sumatra telah terangkum dalam karena tersebar luas hampir di seluruh The Euphorbiaceae of Sumatra yang dunia dan terdiri dari 1302 jenis ditulis oleh H. K. Airy Shaw (Airy Shaw, (Ralimanana & Hoffmann, 2011;Challen, 1981). It is a 7.5 acre conservation area, owned by the City of Key West. The KWBG requested that The Institute for Regional Conservation (IRC) conduct a floristic evaluation of its natural areas and grounds and to provide recommendations. Study Design On August 9-10, 2005 an inventory of all vascular plants was conducted at the KWBG. All areas of the KWBG were visited, including the newly acquired property to the south. Special attention was paid toward the remnant natural habitats. A preliminary plant list was established. Plant taxonomy generally follows Wunderlin (1998) and Bailey et al. (1976). Results Five distinct habitats were recorded for the KWBG. Two of which are human altered and are artificial being classified as developed upland and modified wetland. In addition, three natural habitats are found at the KWBG. They are coastal berm (here termed buttonwood hammock), rockland hammock, and tidal swamp habitats. Developed and Modified Habitats Garden and Developed Upland Areas The developed upland portions include the maintained garden areas as well as the cleared parking areas, building edges, and paths.

Micropropagation offers opportunities to obtain mass propagation of superior genotypes in short time. This study aimed to develop a protocol of direct and indirect organogenesis of Phyllanthus tenellus Roxb. Nodal segments from plantlets obtained by in vitro germination were subcultured in modified Murashige and Skoog medium added with different plant growth regulators: IAA (indole3acetic acid), IBA (indole3butyric acid), GA3 (3giberelic acid) and KIN (kinetin). The highest proliferation rate was obtained using 1 1 the combinations: IBA, KIN + GA3 (3.5 mg L ) and IBA + KIN (2.4 mg L ). Rooting was intensified after 40 days, reaching 100% for all media with indole3butyric acid. Addition of 2,4 dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4D) provided the best results for production of friable calli. Acclimatization was 100% effective for plantlets cultured in control medium, with decrease in survival rate in grown plantlets from media added with growth regulators. Key words - Callus. Micropropagation. Medicinal plant.

Information on local use of the plants was collected from locals who were well versed in them. Sixteen plants, which appeared to be the most commonly used, are presented in this report. Chemical composition and bioactivity reports on the plants are highlighted and they justify/corroborate the medicinal uses of most of these plants. Bush medicine (or bush tea) is a popular term among people of all walks of life in Dominica and it refers to the decoction, concoction or infusion made from the medicinal plants. Future prospects and recommendations in the areas of herbal formulations, drug discovery and medicinal plant research in Dominica are highlighted.
