JACK LONDON SQUARE ANNOUNCES RETURN OF 10TH SEASON OF DANCING UNDER THE STARS, A FREE SUMMER DANCE SERIES

WEEKLY LESSONS AND PUBLIC DANCE PARTY EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT JUNE 1–AUGUST 31, 2018

OAKLAND, CA (April 20, 2018) — Today, Jack London Square announced the return of Dancing Under the Stars, a free outdoor summer dance series taking place 7:30–9 p.m. every Friday from June 1 through August 31, 2018 at the foot of Broadway in the heart of Jack London Square.

Returning for its 10th season, this series features a free 30-minute dance lesson in a range of styles, from classic jazz and country to modern Bollywood and pop. Highlights include Cumbia, featuring the music of Selena; Polynesian and Hawaiian Night with a giveaway by Alaska Airlines; Bachata, Salsa, and Merengue; Vogue: Music of Madonna; an Oakland Night featuring the Scraper Bike Team and turfing, an urban dance style that originated in Oakland; and Warriors of Dance, a “Black Panther”-inspired evening. Complete lineup to be announced at a later date.

Immediately following the lessons, guests are invited to try out their new moves at a public dance party. From jiving newbies to experienced dancers, Dancing Under the Stars is open to dancers of all ages and skill levels. The lessons will be taught by professional dance instructors, including Johnny Lopez, founder of TurfInc, and Carla Service, founder of Dance-A-Vision Entertainment.

Dancing Under the Stars will take place the following Fridays from 7:30–9 p.m.: JUNE 2018 June 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29

JULY 2018 July 6, 13, 20, and 27

AUGUST 2018 August 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31

Guests can arrive early before each event to enjoy all that Jack London Square has to offer, including award-winning restaurants, happy hour specials, ice cream, and more. Several Jack London Square tenants will be offering specials to coincide with the summer event series. Ben & Jerry’s will be selling a large variety of ice creams, sweet treats, and hot chocolate from their mobile cart at each event, all for $3 each or two for $5.50. Additionally, plank will be serving happy hour from 3:00 – 7:00 pm before the events. Yoshi's will also be featuring an exciting menu and lineup of new shows for guests to attend after the events.
