The app was developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) of the Himachal Pradesh government.  In a significant decision after taking over as Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur announced setting up of a 24×7 helpline, called Gudiya, for women.  RBI placed Bank of India and United Bank of India under prompt corrective action (PCA) framework. BOI and UBI became 9th and 10th bank respectively to be put under PCA in last 10 month. Also, this is the second time in four years that UBI came under regulatory sanctions and be forced to take corrective measures for strains in financials.  RBI imposed a monetary penalty of Rs. 30 million on IndusInd Bank for non-compliance with the directions issued by RBI on Income Recognition and Asset Classification (IRAC) norms.  According to Reserve Bank data, bad loans of Public sector banks (PSBs) stood at Rs 7.34 lakh crore by the end of second quarter (September 30) this fiscal, a bulk of which came from corporate defaulters. However, on the other hand private sector banks non- performing assets (NPAs) were considerably low at Rs 1.03 lakh crore by September 30.  According to the Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) Financial Stability Report (FSR), gross non-performing assets (GNPAs) might rise from 10.2 per cent of gross advances in September 2017 to 10.8 per cent in March 2018 and further to 11.1 per cent by September 2018.  The Reserve Bank of Indias (RBI) Fraud Monitoring Reports showed that the scheduled commercial banks including select financial institutions lost Rs 16,789 crore due to frauds in 2016-17.  RBI announced that overseas branches and subsidiaries of Indian banks have been permitted to refinance external commercial borrowings (ECBs) of AAA rated public sector and private sector companies. The Bill seeks to amend the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Act, 1981. The Bill allows the central government to increase the authorised capital of the Bank from 5 thousand crore rupees to 30 thousand crore rupees.  Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has successfully commissioned its refinery off-gas cracker (ROGC) complex of 1.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) capacity along with downstream plants and utilities in Jamnagar, Gujarat.  International credit rating agency Moodys Investors Service has upgraded Indias bond rating for the first time in 14 years, saying continued progress in Indias economic and institutional reforms will enhance its high growth potential. It has upgraded Indias bond rating to Baa2 from its lowest investment grade (Baa3).  Moodys Investors Service has upgraded the ratings of infrastructure government-related issuers (GRIs) NTPC, NHPC, NHAI & GAIL to Baa2 in line with Indias sovereign ratings.  Rating agency Standard & Poors (S&P) maintained Indias sovereign ratings at BBB-/A-3 with stable outlook.  Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country increased by 17 per cent to USD 25.35 billion during April-September this fiscal.

Govt cuts small savings interest rates by 20 bps

The government has reduced the interest rates on small saving schemes, including National Savings Certificates (NSCs), Public Provident Fund (PPF) and Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP), by 0.2 percentage point for the fourth quarter of the fiscal (January-March).

The interest rate on the one-year time deposit has been lowered to 6.6 percent as compared to 6.8 percent in the October-December quarter, whereas the 2-year time deposit will now fetch a lower interest rate of 6.7 percent from 6.9 percent in the previous quarter.

For small saving schemes, new interest rates (for January-March) are:

 Public Provident Fund (PPF) – 7.6%  National Savings Certificates (NSCs) – 7.6%  Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP) – 7.3%  Senior Citizen’s Savings Scheme of five-year period – 8.3%  Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana for the girl child – 8.1%
