7th Quinquennial Review of Schedules 5 and 8 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act (1981) Information Pack (version 2.21) 14 May 2021 1 Version 2.2: Four reptiles and two seals removed from the EPS list (Annex 1); one EPS amphibian and two EPS reptiles that are all Endangered removed from Annex 2 – these species were included in Version 2 and/or 2.1 in error. See Annex 1 and Annex 2 for further information. 1. Introduction Every five years, the country nature conservation bodies (Natural England, Natural Resources Wales and NatureScot), working jointly through the UK Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC), review Schedules 5 and 8 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act (WCA) 1981. The review will provide recommendations to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and to Ministers for the Environment in the Scottish Government and Welsh Government for changes to these schedules2. This is known as the Quinquennial Review (QQR). As part of the QQR, stakeholders are provided with the opportunity to propose changes to the species on the schedules. This Information Pack has been produced for the 7th QQR (QQR 7). It is important to note that this QQR differs from previous ones. The Information Pack explains the new selection criteria, provides a timetable, and explains the process to be used by stakeholders. Contact details of the QQR Inter-agency Group who are managing QQR 7, are listed in Section 5. In addition, the Information Pack provides details of how to complete the online survey through which stakeholders propose new species for inclusion on, or removal of existing species from Schedules 5 and 8, or propose a change to how species are protected on the schedules. -

LARSON Department of Biology, Memorial University of Newfoundland St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada A1B 3X9 Abstract. One hundred and thirteen species of Dytiscidae (Coleoptera) are recorded from the Yukon Territory. The Yukon distribution, total geographical range and habitat of each of these species is described and multi-species patterns are summarized in tabular form. Several different range patterns are recognized with most species being Holarctic or transcontinental Nearctic boreal (73%) in lentic habitats. Other major range patterns are Arctic (20 species) and Cordilleran (12 species), while a few species are considered to have Grassland (7), Deciduous forest (2) or Southern (5) distributions. Sixteen species have a Beringian and glaciated western Nearctic distribution, i.e. the only Nearctic Wisconsinan refugial area encompassed by their present range is the Alaskan/Central Yukon refugium; 5 of these species are closely confined to this area while 11 have wide ranges that extend in the arctic and/or boreal zones east to Hudson Bay. Résumé. Les dytiques (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) du Yukon. Cent treize espèces de dytiques (Coleoptera: Dytiscidae) sont connues au Yukon. Leur répartition au Yukon, leur répartition globale et leur habitat sont décrits et un tableau résume les regroupements d’espèces. La répartition permet de reconnaître plusieurs éléments: la majorité des espèces sont holarctiques ou transcontinentales-néarctiques-boréales (73%) dans des habitats lénitiques. Vingt espèces sont arctiques, 12 sont cordillériennes, alors qu’un petit nombre sont de la prairie herbeuse (7), ou de la forêt décidue (2), ou sont australes (5). -

Report on Beetles (Coleoptera) Collected from the Dartington Hall Estate, 2013 by Dr Martin Luff
Report on beetles (Coleoptera) collected from the Dartington Hall Estate, 2013 by Dr Martin Luff. 1. Introduction This year has been a particularly busy one for my work on the beetles of the Estate. I recorded numbers of species on 11 separate dates from April (at the end of the cold spring) through to mid- November. The generally warm and dry summer enabled me to record much more by sweeping herbaceous vegetation around field margins, especially in Hill Park. At the end of May I was assisted by an old friend of mine, and former fellow student, Dr Colin Welch (RCW), who is an authority on the Staphylinidae (rove beetles). I was also provided with the contents of the nest boxes from Dartington Hills in February and September, thanks to Will Wallis and Mike Newby. Finally Mary Bartlett again encouraged me to examine the fauna of her compost heap in November. 2. Results A total of 201 beetle species from 35 families were recorded. This is considerably more than in any previous year that I have collected at Dartington. Of these, 85 species were not recorded in my earlier lists (Luff, 2010-12). The overall number of species that I have recorded from the Estate is now 369, which is almost 10% of the entire British beetle fauna. The bird nest boxes yielded 13 species, with over half being new to the Estate, despite having examined the boxes in previous years; the contents of the boxes were also rather different between spring and autumn, with only four species common to both. -

Aceptado: 27-I-2004 ISSN: 0210-8984 RESUMEN Se realiza un inventario de 286 especies de Scarabaeoidea, Buprestoidea, Byrrhoidea, Elateroidea, Bostrichoidea, Lymexyloidea, Cleroidea, Cucujoidea, Tenebrionoidea, Chrysomeloidea y Curculionoidea del Parque Natural de las Fragas del Eume (Galicia, noroeste de la Península Ibérica). Destacan especialmente las citas de Aphthona sandrae Baselga y Novoa, 2002 que fue descrita del Parque Natural, así como Chrysobyrrhulus asturiensis Allemand, 1997, Grynobius planus (Fabricius, 1787), Phyllotreta exclamationis (Thunberg, 1784) y Longitarsus fulgens (Foudras, 1860) por ampliar significativamente su distribución. Debido al carácter atlántico del clima y la vegetación, los elementos septentrionales (25,1%) suponen una proporción mucho mayor que los mediterráneos (7,8%). Los endemismos ibéricos son bastan- te abundantes (14,8%) y aparecen numerosas especies típicas de áreas montañosas, datos que indican un alto grado de conservación de esta zona de baja altitud. Diese Druckschrift wird im Rahmen der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit der schleswig- holsteinischen Landesregierung heraus- gegeben. Sie darf weder von Parteien noch von Personen, die Wahlwerbung oder Wahlhilfe betreiben, im Wahl- kampf zum Zwecke der Wahlwerbung verwendet werden. Auch ohne zeit- lichen Bezug zu einer bevorstehenden Wahl darf die Druckschrift nicht in einer Weise verwendet werden, die als Partei- nahme der Landesregierung zu Gunsten einzelner Gruppen verstanden werden könnte. Den Parteien ist es gestattet, die Druckschrift zur Unterrichtung ihrer eigenen Mitglieder zu verwenden.
