Abstract: In this study, 1210 adult specimens of the infraorder Gerromorpha (Hemiptera: Heteroptera) were collected from 47 diff erent localities in eastern Anatolia, the Black Sea region, Kelkit Valley, and Hatay from 2006 to 2010, and the unpublished materials studied were collected from diff erent parts of Turkey by Seidenstücker, Wellschmied, Demel, and Heinzl, and deposited in the Zoologische Staatssammlung München. In this study, 6 genera of 4 families and 15 species were recorded. Of those, 13 were new records for the research areas. Furthermore, Gerris lacustris (Linnaeus, 1758), Gerris thoracicus Schummel, 1832, Gerris asper (Fieber, 1860), and Gerris caucasicus Kanyukova, 1982 were the fi rst recorded from east Anatolia and Gerris maculatus Tamanini, 1946 was the fi rst recorded from the Black Sea region. In addition, recently doubted specimens that are related to the given record, called Rhagovelia nigricans nigricans (Burmeister, 1835) by Seidenstücker (1957) from Hatay (Iskenderun), were reexamined and their species identifi cation was confi rmed and the redescription of this taxon is given.

Th e İçel, Iğdır, Kahramanmaraş, Karabük, Niğde, Samsun, representatives of 4 families, namely Hebridae, Sinop, Sivas, Tokat, and Van; Velia affi nis affi nis for Hydrometridae, Veliidae, and Gerridae, were Amasya, Giresun, Isparta, Malatya, and Niğde; and collected. Th e family Gerridae, which was represented Velia kiritshenkoi for Sinop. by 8 species, was the most common in the collections Some identifi cations of specimens deposited in of this study. the ZSM were reexamined. Th is revealed that the Kıyak and Özsaraç (2001) listed 5 families of specimens originally identifi ed as Hebrus pusillus Gerromorpha from various regions in Turkey. In the (Fallén, 1807) from Konya in fact belong to H. Gerromorpha checklist, 5 families with 8 genera, 26 montanus and the specimens labeled as Gerris species, and 3 subspecies were listed. Aside from the gibbifer Schummel, 1832 from Hatay (İskenderun) checklist by Kıyak and Özsaraç (2001), there are very in fact belong to G. maculatus. Th e occurrence few papers on the semiaquatic true bugs of Turkey. of Gerris gibbifer in Turkey has been considered Th e publications in Turkey were mainly focused only doubtful by Andersen (1995). Based on the nearly on new regional records (Seidenstücker, 1957; Kıyak exclusive allopatry of G. gibbifer and G. maculatus, et al., 2007, 2008; Salur and Mesci, 2009). Finally, Fent Fent et al. (2011) excluded it from Turkish fauna et al. (2011) provided a catalogue of Turkish aquatic based on proven (Hoberlandt 1952) or suspected and semiaquatic Heteroptera, listing 5 families, 9 misidentifi cations of G. maculatus (e.g., Horváth, genera, 26 species, and 1 subspecies of Gerromorpha. 1919; Poisson, 1925; Gadeau de Kerville, 1939; Kıyak In this study, Microvelia hozari, was identifi ed in 1 et al., 2007, 2008). Th e results obtained in this study locality and Hebrus montanus and Gerris caucacicus support Fent et al. (2011). were collected in 2 localities. All of these species Seidenstücker (1957) recorded R. nigricans are rare in Turkey. On the other hand, Hydrometra in İskenderun (Hatay Province), and it has been stagnorum, Velia affi nis affi nis, Aquarius paludum, recorded in Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan (see Fent Gerris costai fi eberi, Gerris lacustris, and Gerris et al., 2011). However, the discovered occurrence thoracicus are common species distributed in all of another species, R. infernalis africana, in Cyprus geographical regions of Turkey. and Israel, previously misidentifi ed as R. nigricans Gerris caucasicus was recorded from Çorum and (cf. Fent et al., 2011), required the reexamination of Sivas provinces by Fent et al. (2011). In this study, Seidenstücker’s specimens to confi rm the species’ Gerris caucasicus, Gerris asper, Gerris lacustris, and identity. Upon this, Seidenstücker’s specimens have Gerris thoracicus are the fi rst recorded from east been reexamined in this study, and these specimens Anatolia and Gerris maculatus is the fi rst recorded have been redescribed for the fi rst time, and the male from the Black Sea region. Kanyukova (1982) genitalia were determined according to Lundblad described G. caucasicus from Armenia, Azerbaijan, (1936) as R. nigricans nigricans.
