Reading, which is also one of the four basic language skills, allows an individual to establish a connection with life. So that, self-improvement of the individual, the process of understanding and interpreting what is happening around him/her, expressing himself/herself and communicating with others, achieving success in education process, and living-conveying the culture earn success with correct acquisition and continuity of this skill. Individuals, who read and define themselves and their environment correctly, succeed also in understanding and transferring process of cultural structures. Each individual adopts the culture and value structure of the society where he/she lives. For this reason, it is important for individuals to understand some local and universal values correctly and to exhibit correct behaviors in this process. To do this, education about some value concepts are given to the secondary school students by the National Education. The population of the study consisted of 7th-grade students studying in two secondary schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education. While one group was the experimental group, the other one was the control group. While a values education supported with reading materials was given in one of these schools, a values education without any intervention of the teacher in the process was given at the other school. -

Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin İlk Genel Nüfus Sayımında Ardahan Vilâyeti’nin Nüfus Özellikleri The Population Characteristics of Ardahan Province in the First General Census of the Turkish Republic Oğuz ŞİMŞEK* Özet Bu çalışmada, Ardahan ilinin, Cumhuriyeti’nin ilk genel nüfus sayımı olan 1927 Genel Nüfus Sayımı’ndaki nüfus özellikleri ele alınmıştır. Çalışmanın giriş bölü- münde 1927 Genel Nüfus Sayımı’ndan önceki dönemlerde Ardahan Vilâyeti’nin nüfusu ve nüfus özellikleri kısaca değinilmiştir. Çalışmanın asıl bölümünde ise, 28 Ekim 1927’de yapılan ilk genel nüfus sayımı sonuçlarına dayanılarak, Ardahan Vilâ- yeti’nin genel nüfusu ve cinsiyet itibariyle nüfusu incelenmiştir. Sonraki bölümlerde ise sırasıyla; yaş grupları itibariyle, medenî hale göre, okur-yazarlık durumuna göre, doğum yerleri bakımından, ekonomik faaliyet kolları itibariyle, anadile göre, sakatlık- lar temel alınarak, Ardahan Vilâyeti’nin nüfus yapısı hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. Bu çalışma ile Ardahan ilinin Rus işgalinde kaldığı dönem ile Cumhuriyetin ilanından sonra yapılan ilk nüfus sayımı arasındaki nüfus özellikleri ve demografik yapısı ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Abstract: Ethnicity is a complex phenomenon. It is a highly controversial, disputable, problematic term that does not have any fixed meaning and is used as a less emotive term for a race. Ethnicity is a social construct like race, but the main difference is that race refers to phenotypical differences, whereas ethnicity refers to cultural differences. Ethnicity helps an individual to identify with a larger group, and one’s ethnicity may identify an individual. Too many writers like Max Weber, Michael Brown, Wsevolod Isajiw, etc. have discussed many features to define 'ethnicity.' To explain and outline an apparent meaning for ethnicity, authors like Fredrik Barth, Abner Cohen, Michael Hechter, etc. have postulated different approaches such as primordialism, instrumentalism, materialism and constructivism. Robert E. Park has contributed to the theory of ethnicity by focusing on assimilation theory. Authors like Omi and Vinant have openly opposed this theory and considered the immigrant as the basis of ethnicity. The chief motive of this paper is to discuss the shifting meanings of ethnicity and to depict the purpose behind the divisions based on ethnicity. Entrepreneurship values such as success need, focus of control, getting risk, tolerance to uncertain, trust and innovation were measured via questionnaire. Foreign trade datas were analyzed via Turkish Statistical Institution. The effects of border gates on entrepreneurship culture and foreign trade were disputed. Besides, the supports and the potential effect of SERKA, development agency in this area, on foreign trade and entrepreneurship were emphasized. In addition, the first ten goods regarding import and export in the area and the foreign trade volume and balance of foreign trade according to provinces were revealed. The DDPA underlines the importance of human rights education as a key to changing attitudes and behaviour and to promoting tolerance and respect for diversity in societies1 and, therefore as crucial in the struggle against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance.2 The importance of human rights education is also underlined in several other human rights documents. The Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action assert that “human rights education, training and public information are essential for the promotion and achievement of stable and harmonious relations among communities and for fostering mutual understanding, tolerance and peace.”3 The World Programme for Human Rights Education identifies the promotion of understanding, tolerance, gender equality and friendship among all nations, indigenous peoples and racial, national, ethnic, religious and linguistic groups as one of the constitutive elements of human rights education that aims at building a universal culture of human rights.4 The 2005 World Summit Outcome calls for the implementation of the World Programme for Human Rights Education and encourages all States to develop initiatives in this regard.5 30. -

Primarily through loans to build up the economy and diplomatic pressure, the United States and Great Britain helped to maintain an independent Austrian state and prevent an Anschluss or union with Germany from 1918 to 1934. In addition, this study examines the minority of Austrians who opposed an Anschluss . The three main groups of Austrians that supported independence were the Christian Social Party, monarchists, and some industries and industrialists. These Austrian nationalists cooperated with the Americans and British in sustaining an unwilling Austrian nation. Ultimately, the global depression weakened American and British capacity to practice dollar and pound diplomacy, and the popular appeal of Hitler combined with Nazi Germany’s aggression led to the realization of the Anschluss .
