Please consider this request, Tim Fischer AC We are very honoured by The Honourable Tim Fischer AC agreeing to be the Patron of the Catholic Military Ordinariate. As a young man, his connection with the Australian Army was significant, having served in 1RAR in South Vietnam. As the biography below indicates, he has been engaged in many aspects of Australian life, as well as Ambassador to the Holy See. We are very encouraged by his support to us. Tim Fischer was born at Lockhart, NSW, and educated at Boree Creek in the Riverina and Xavier College, Melbourne. Mr Fischer served with the Australian Army, 1 RAR from 1966‐1969, in both Australia and Vietnam, before returning to the family farm at Boree Creek in southern NSW. In 1971 he was elected to the NSW Parliament. During his time in State Parliament, Mr Fischer became National Party Whip and served on a number of Parliamentary Committees, including the State ‘Staysafe’ Committee. He resigned from state politics in 1984 to seek pre‐selection for the Federal Parliamentary seat of Farrer, at the time based on Albury, Corowa and Deniliquin, from the ACT to the SA border. Mr Fischer was subsequently elected Federal Member for Farrer and served in this mrole fro 1984 to 2001. During this time he was Shadow Minister for Energy & Resources, Shadow Minister for Trade, Leader of the National Party and later Minister for Trade and Deputy Prime Minister in the Howard Government (1996 ‐ 1999). He led the Official Delegation to observe the East Timor Referendum in 1999. In Federal Parliament, Tim Fischer strongly supported harmonized strict Gun Law Reform and the world’s newest transcontinental railway, Adelaide to Darwin, where freight tonnage has increased greatly since its inception in 2004. He retired from politics in 2001, served as Chair Tourism Australia 2004 ‐ 2007 and then first Rome‐resident Australian Ambassador to the Holy See 2009 ‐ 2012. He was also appointed Special Envoy by the Australian Government to Bhutan, Eritrea and South Sudan, for a period of years. Brennan, Bishop of Columbus, has placed diocesan priest Father Kevin F. Lutz, 69, on administrative leave, effective September 11, 2019. This action and announcement are made in accordance with the Catholic Church’s Charter and Norms for the Protection of Children and Young People and the Diocese’s published Policies for Prevention of Sexual Abuse of Minors and Response to Allegations Thereof. Father Lutz recently announced his retirement from priestly ministry at St. Mary Parish, Columbus, which was effective September 8, 2019. The next day, September 9, an accusation of sexual abuse of a minor, allegedly occurring during Father Lutz’s tenure at St. Christopher Parish, Columbus, from 1983-1986, was reported to the Diocesan Chancery office. The same day, Diocesan officials had the allegation reported to Columbus Police and notified Father Lutz of the allegation. On September 11, the details of the allegation were reviewed with Father Lutz, he was formally placed on leave, and he was advised about the steps the Church would follow as a result of the allegation. As was explained to Father Lutz, his placement on administrative leave was not an indication that the Diocese had determined that the allegation is credible. Rather, the preliminary investigation into the allegation has just begun. -MORE- COLUMBUS BISHOP PLACES – 2 of 3 A meeting of the Diocesan Board of Review for the Protection of Children will be convened in the near future to assess the results of the preliminary investigation and advise the Bishop as to whether or not it appears to be credible.

THOMAS THE APOSTLE St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago The faith confession of St. Thomas the Apostle, “My Lord and My God”, stands in history as the most profound confession on Jesus’ true identity. ‘Lord’ and ‘God’ are the equivalent words for the Greek terms ‘Kyrios’ and ‘Theos’ respectively used to denote the Hebrew words ‘Yahweh’ and ‘Elohim’, two expressions used to address the Almighty One. Making use of these words to the Resurrected Lord, Thomas equates Jesus to the Absolute Deity. He connects the Old Testament and New Testament St. Thomas Syro-Malabar understanding of God in the person of Jesus Christ.
