Background of conclusion of the Renewal Agreement (1) Environment surrounding the AEON MALL Tsudanuma "AEON MALL Tsudanuma" (Narashino City, Chiba) (hereafter "the Property") owned by MCUBS MidCity is a retail property that is directly connected to “Shin-Tsudanuma” station on the Shin-Keisei Line. The population of Narashino City and the neighboring Funabashi City has been consistently increasing since 2011. At the same time, the population of those with purchasing power is high in terms of income and age, and hence the potential for retail property is high. Also, in March 2016, Narashino City formulated the "Policy for Considering Community Development around JR Tsudanuma Station" and designated the area connecting JR “Tsudanuma” station and Shin-Keisei Line "Shin-Tsudanuma" station as the entrance to the city front, which promotes redevelopment by the private sector. The Onnagawa Formation is one of such deposits, which shows cyclic sedimentary rhythms reflecting oscil- lations of the marine environment in the Japan Sea. However, the age of the Onnagawa Formation is still poorly con- strained due to the poor preservation of siliceous microfossils. To better constrain its age, we performed U-Pb dating of zircon grains from a tuff layer from the middle part of the Onnagawa Formation, and obtained an age of 11.18 ± 0.37 Ma. -

About 27,000 timber houses, a lot of buried sewage pipes and roads were damaged due to liquefaction. In Tokyo Bay area, the very long duration of the main shock and an aftershock 29 minutes later probably induced the severe liquefaction. Sidewalks and alleys buckled at several sites, probably due to a kind of sloshing of liquefied ground. Moreover, much sand boiled from the ground and the ground subsided significantly because the liquefied soils were very fine. Key Words: Great East Japan earthquake, liquefaction, house, sewage pipe, road INTRODUCTION The 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, with a magnitude of Mw=9.0 occurred in the Pacific Ocean about 130 km off the northeast coast of Japan’s main island on March 11, 2011. Liquefaction occurred in a wide area of reclaimed land along Tokyo Bay, though the epicentral distance was very large, about 380 to 400 km. Much land has been reclaimed in the Tokyo Bay area since the seventeenth century. Liquefaction has been induced during past earthquakes, such as 1923 Kanto Earthquake and 1987 Chibake-toho-oki Earthquake. -

Izzet Bahar, PhD University of Pittsburgh, 2012 This study aims to investigate in depth two incidents that have been widely presented in literature as examples of the humanitarian and compassionate Turkish Republic lending her helping hand to Jewish people who had fallen into difficult, even life threatening, conditions under the racist policies of the Nazi German regime. The first incident involved recruiting more than one hundred Jewish scientists and skilled technical personnel from German-controlled Europe for the purpose of reforming outdated academia in Turkey. -
