went on to finish 3rd overall in the event, just one race out of qualifying for the High School Team Race Nationals for the Baker Trophy in Seattle, WA.

Registration Open for Summer Junior Sailing Program 2010 LATE FEES KICK MAY 14TH Don’t miss the fun this summer! Our programs are limited in size to insure quality of instruction. Classes will fill and sell out! So sign up today! Our primary goal for all the summer programs is to make sure your junior has a safe, fun experience and learns to love sailing, boating and the water this summer. Register NOW for the AYC Sum- mer Junior Sailing Program! All registrations should be done online at the AYC website: www.annapolisyc.org. Click on: Junior Sailing, Programs & Regattas. Classes run in 1, 2 and 4 week ses- sions from June 21—Aug. 13. Morning Programs - Learn to Sail (9 AM - 12 noon) • Creek-Critters- Intro to Water: One-week sessions for 5-6 year olds designed to introduce them to fun in, around, and on the water. Activities build confidence and include paddling, rowing, sailing, crafts, songs, and “messing about in boats.” • Sea Squirts- Fun with Boats: Two weeks of more specific rigging, steering, and actually sailing boats including Opti- mists, Club 420’s and J/22s. Ages 7-8. • Learn to Sail- Two-week Sessions include Beginner Opti (Age 8-11) and Beginner 420 (Age 12-18). Curriculum geared toward rigging and skills needed to skipper and crew in an Optimist or Club 420, respectively. Afternoon Programs - Learn to Race (1 PM - 4:30 PM) • Intermediate Opti- For those 9-12 year olds who’ve completed Beginner Opti and are ready to move on to boat han- dling and sailing competently at all points of sail in all conditions. • Intermediate 420- For those 12-18 who are ready for boat handling, spinnakers, and sailing in all condi- tions NEW Program - Adventure Sailing: For 12-18 year olds who don’t want the racing path. Afternoon course includes fun on boats, from sailing to kayaking, naviga- tion, seamanship and sailing various boats of all sizes from Open Bics to J/22s. Adrienne Patterson: 420 Race Coach From Newport Beach, California, Adrienne has been sailing since the age of five. Coaching and teaching has always been her passion and she has years of experience work- ing from Newport Harbor YC, Larchmont YC and as a private coach. During her four years of undergraduate work at St. Mary’s College, she competed on the Varsity Team participat- ing in all four ICSA Women’s National Championships. In 2007, the women’s team won the Women’s National Championship and Adrienne had the honor of being named the Quantum Female Sailor of the Year. Adrienne received her Master of Arts in Teaching in June’08. Tonie Domino: Sea Squirts Tonie grew up sailing at Indian Landing Boat Club in Millersville. As part of the Sail- ing team at Washington College. Tonie was a versatile member of the team and crewed in both co-ed and women’s events. She graduated from Washington College Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. in Biology and a minors in Chemistry and Psychology, winning the Doris T. Bell Award for the Highest cumulative GPA. Tonie currently attends Cornell Vet- erinary School. She Brings to AYC her life-long love of sailing and a decade of experience working with children of all ages in many different settings. Jennifer Chamberlin: Opti Race Coach Jennifer Chamberlin is from the Eastern Shore where she learned to sail at Tred Avon Yacht Club. Jennifer attended St. Mary's College of Maryland and graduated in 2009 with a degree in Economics. While at St. Mary's Jenn was a Varsity Sailor for 4 years on the Co- ed Team Racing Team and Women's Team. In 2007 Jenn, along with her fellow co-worker Adrienne Patterson, won ICSA Women's College Nationals as well as ICSA College Team Racing Nationals. Jenn was an All-American Crew.

Ian Duncan: 420 Development Team Ian started sailing when he was 6 years old with his father in the fleet at WRSC, and has continued to sail with him since. Ian has gone to Canadian National Regattas as well as international regattas. In high School Ian sailed for Severn School as a crew his freshmen year and skipper since then. Currently Ian is a freshmen on the University of Vermont sailing team. Ian has also been a sailing instructor the past three years in On- tario, Canada.

Daniel Ryan : Junior Program Coordinator Dan grew up sailing out of the Peninsula Youth Sailing Foundation and Sequoia Yacht Club located in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dan has experience and logged many hours sailing and racing many different boats from ’s to J/105s and everything in- between. He came to Annapolis after years of sailing program management. Dan’s re- sume includes Director of the Stanford University Summer Sailing Program and teaching for-credit PE Sailing Classes to Stanford students and staff. In addition, Dan has coached Opti, , FJ, 420, and High school sailing. A recent of University of Califor- nia Irvine with a degree in Political Science, Dan started on there Varsity Sailing Team with several top finishes at PCCSC district regattas. 2010 Staff Bios Page 5

Anne Megargel: Beg. Opti/ Adv. Sailing Anne joins the Annapolis Yacht Club Junior Program with and extensive background in coaching and teaching. Currently Anne acts as the Assistant Varsity Sailing Coach for Severn School where she coordinates and supervises travel and racing for weekend fleet and team race regattas. Anne attended Dartmouth College where she sailed for 4 years as a crew. In 2006 Anne was awarded the Founders Cup Award for the most improved team member. In 2007 as an A Division crew Anne placed second in ICSA Nationals. In 2009 Anne attended the ICSA Women’s Nationals as the B Division crew. Anne graduated from Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Romance Languages and Anthropology.

Patrick Clancy: 420 Race Team Patrick began racing at age 7 out of Scituate Harbor Yacht Club. He later went on to attend and sail at Boston College High School. Patrick sailed optimists and 420s throughout junior sailing until he enrolled at Washington College and became a member of their var- sity sailing team. Eventually, he transferred to Salve College where he will graduate in 2011 with a degree in Business Management. Aside from competing in ICSA Patrick also enjoyed sailing lasers in the local Newport and Annapolis fleets. Other than sailing, Patrick enjoys skiing and golf.

Amanda Salvesen: Sea Squirts Amanda has spent every summer since she was born sailing on the Chesapeake Bay! First with her parents then as an Optimist sailor out of Annapolis Yacht Club and finally as a crew on the C420 Race Team. In high school she started crewing for the Severn School Sailing Team, where they went on to win High School Fleet Race Nationals in 2007. In the Fall Amanda will be attending Yale University where she will sail on their sailing team.

Steve Barbano : Opti Race Coach Steven Barbano, at senior on The College of Charleston Sailing Team will bring a wealth of experience to the sailors of our summer sailing programs. In the summer of 2009 Ste- ven held a private coaching position with Brant Beach Yacht Club in New Jersey. Sum- mers prior he also acted as a sailing instructor. Steven also holds on his resume the North American Youth Champion in the 420 Sailing Class and the United States National Opti- mist Sailing Champion in 2003. Steven was a proud member the US National Sailing Team representing the USA in World Championships.

Courtney Alexander: Creek Critters Courtney Alexander comes back to us fresh out of High School sailing with a vast knowl- edge of the competitive high school circuit. Having sailed for 4 years on the Saint Mary’s high school team as a crew her accomplishments include in 2008, 3rd in US Junior Dou- ble handed Championship, 10th in 2007 C420 Mid-Atlantic Championship, and also in 2007 the winner of the annual Corinthian Spirit Award from Annapolis Yacht Club. Courtney also leads the St. Mary’s Sailors as their Team Captain.
